Catered or Self-Catering

The majority of our properties have self catering facilities but many also offer catered services. You may want all your meals prepared for you or just to relax one evening and have a meal prepared and served for you in your properties dining room. Let the property owners know your requirements in advance and they will do their best to accommodate your requests.

Catering Tips and Ideas

1. Shop Online

Have your food and drink waiting for you at your accommodation. Follow the link to the right and enter your chosen property's postcode to see which supermarkets will deliver.

Compare prices for the cheapest shopping basket. This can be especially useful when comparing special offers on things like beer and wine. mySupermarket allows you to compare shopping basket prices between Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys and Ocado (Waitrose). Your shopping will be delivered in the normal way to your holiday house by the supermarket or supermarkets of your choice. Make sure you notify the owners of your holiday house of the deliveries or ensure the deliveries are made when some of your group have arrived at the property.

2. Share Responsibilities

Rather than lumping the responsibility of catering on one person assign responsibilities to different members of the group. Use our group planner to help plan who will be responsible for each meal and ensure everyone is aware of any special dietary requirements of group members.

3. Use Our Large Group Recipes

We have created our very own cookbooks for large groups on recipe site RecipeZaar. This is a great resource that lets you search recipes and enter the amount of people you want to serve. It then automatically updates the amount of ingredients you’ll need. It even has a search filter for ‘large groups’!

We’ve selected our favourite recipes and put them into different cookbooks. Check out Large Groups. Vegetarian Groups, Big BBQ Recipes, and Budget Group Catering.

4. Prepare in Advance

Ensure you have the maximum amount of time to relax and enjoy yourself during your stay. Limit the amount of time you need to spend cooking by planning and preparing as much as you can beforehand.

5. Throw a BBQ

BBQs are an incredibly fun and easy way to feed large groups. Ask your property owner whether they have a BBQ available for use. Many do or will be able to arrange one for you. You can ask them to provide utensils, fuel etc, bring your own or add it to your online order so they’re there waiting on your arrival.

6. Hog Roasts

Get mouth-watering meats and crispy crackling served straight from the spit. There are a multitude of companies out there who will come on site and cook and serve the spit roast. Simply ask your group accommodation property owner or use a search engine to find a supplier local to your accommodation.

7. Eat Out

Whether it’s a stroll to the local pub for a hearty meal washed down with a few ales or a visit to a restaurant in the nearest town, eating out can be an enjoyable and stress free option for large groups. In the details of each property you will see how far away the nearest pub and restaurants are. Your property owner should be able to recommend the best restaurants but it’s also worth doing some research online beforehand. We would always recommend booking in advance to ensure they can accommodate large groups.

8. Takeaways

Want to stay in and enjoy time with friends in your property but want a cheap alternative to cooking? Ask your accommodation owner for information on the local takeaway places. Most owners will have a selection of menus and will be able to recommend the best places in the area. If you’re in a big group you may well be able to get discounts but remember to order in plenty of time!
