The property was originally Victorian medical school built in 1879 and is a listed building.

Avalon is one of the only hostels in Ireland that uses wind and solar energy to power the hostel and has full recycling facilities.

Group Accommodation Details:                                             
 
Catering: We have a fully equipped self catering kitchen for guests. Our cafe The Bald Barista serves breakfast and lunch. Dinners can also be arranged.
Kitchen: Our large fully equipped self catering kitchen is available for use of all guests and is open from 7am to 11pm
Dining Room:  We have dining space for up to 50 people in our kitchen and we can accommodate more if needed.
Sitting Room: We have a comfortable lounge/sitting room area which also has a cinema, table tennis table and library.
TV and Music Facilities: We have a cinema, televisions, music systems, playstation and a wide range of films for guests to watch.
Heating/Open Fires:  We have a large open fire in our cafe area and the building is heated by gas fired central heating.
Bedrooms: We have 70 bedrooms in total. Single rooms, twins/doubles, triples, 4 bed dorms, 5 bed dorms, 6 bed dorms, 10 bed dorms and 12 bed dorms.
Linen: All linen is included in the price.
Bathrooms: We have a range of ensuite and standard rooms. Ensuites have shower, toilet and sink in the room but standard rooms share bathroom facilities.
Disabled Facilities:  Unfortunately we do not have disabled facilities at present
Children's Facilities:  We have a cot available at reception which can be borrowed for free.
Outdoor Facilities:  None
Swimming Pool:  No
Parking:  There is on street parking outside the hostel but this is charged per hour. There is a car park close to the hostel which has special rates for guests
Telecom Facilities:  We have public telephones which take coins or credit cards.
Smoking:  Smoking in the hostel is illegal in Ireland and smoking is only allowed outside the building.
Pets:  No
Games Room:  We have a table tennis table, pool table and table football. We also have a huge range of board games and a playstation.

Nearest Airport:  Dublin Airport - 11 kilometres from the city centre.
Nearest Train Station:  Heuston Station and Connolly Station which serve all major Irish stations are 25 minutes walk from the hostel
Nearest Bus:  16A bus from the airport stops right beside the hostel.
