"Finding group accommodation for walkers and climbers has always been a tad random and haphazard once you get beyond the obvious YHA hostels and BMC climbing huts, so it's great to see a website that specialises in group bookings across all sorts of properties from bunkhouses and activity centres right through to castles... Groupaccommodation.com - two 'Cs' and two 'M's - has actually been around since 2004, but no-one told us about it, and has some rather nice features. For starters you can search the database of 400-plus properties catering for groups by geographical location, property type or, and this is a nice one, any of almost 200 different activities.

Once you've identified some suitable options, you can choose to send an identically worded e-mail enquiry to up to 25 of them rather than having to go through the laborious process of making individual enquiries.

Finally, when you do book, it's direct with the owners rather than through an agency, which in some cases can avoid commission charges of up to 25 per-cent, which is nice.

James Maughan, the man behind the site says that ''Finding suitable accommodation in the right area, of the right sort and in the right price range can often involve hours of searching and research. What we wanted to do was to create a "one-stop resource for people to search on."

So there you go. A neat site and well worth a look if you're trying to find somewhere to stay for a group."

"Well, it's not so much the website that's cool as what it helps you do: head for the hills with a gang of mates to walk all day and feast and talk rubbish all night. New site www.groupaccommodation.com is a searchable site listing bunkhouses, activity centres, castles and cottages all set up for hire by groups of friends. If you want to head out with the gang, this is so much easier than ringing round looking for B&Bs you can all fit in, cheaper than booking a hotel and more of a laugh than staying in a hostel. There's no booking fee, as you contact the digs direct.
