8 Fun Hen Party Themes That Are Actually Affordable

Picking the right theme for your best friend’s hen party can be the part that everyone remembers. Making sure everyone is happy with the costs and finding a theme that will complement your destination and entertainment choices can be tricky though. Read on to get some inspiration on fun hen party themes you can actually pull off.

St Trinians

St Trinians is a great choice for fun-loving hen parties – plus it’s a really easy costume to put together. School blouses, kilt-style skirts and ties can easily be found at charity shops and cute pigtails and face-paint freckles don’t take an awful lot of effort. You can also extend the St Trinians theme to your nightlife choices. Everyone loves a school disco-themed nightclub, after all!

Traditional hen

There’s nothing wrong with opting for a traditional theme for your hen party in 2020. Sourcing L plates, tiaras, blow-up dolls and… ahem… other bodily-inspired paraphernalia is pretty straightforward and doesn’t cost too much either. You’re also likely to spot other hen parties on your travels for some tipsy solidarity!

Nautical theme

This is a great theme, particularly if your hen party destination is on a river or by the sea. For those who aren’t keen on making a big effort, a pirate hat or parrot accessory will suffice. For those who want to channel Keira in Pirates of the Caribbean, grab a sumptuous bodiced gown and complete your look with a tousled updo. Try eBay for either second hand or cheap costumes.

Looking for the ideal riverside location for your hen party? With fabulous nightlife, delicious eateries, a beautiful harbour to stroll around and boats you can drink, eat dinner or party on, Bristol is a great choice. Try this contemporary house with plenty of space for socialising, just a few miles outside the city centre for your perfect hen party accommodation.

The 60s and 70s

Another really fun and highly doable theme is the 60s or 70s. Those bell-bottom jeans or kaftan will be great during cold weather and flowery face painting is a really nice pre-club activity to do together. You can also complement your theme with some nightlife choices inspired by the eras. And perhaps a themed dinner beforehand with all the retro foodstuffs and drinks to get the (disco) ball rolling. Snowball cocktail, anyone?

Period costume

This theme might require a bit more effort in the dressing up department but if your hen party is keen, it’s a lovely idea and should make for some truly Instagrammable photos! For those who don’t want to go full-ballgown, a flapper dress or beaded top will suffice. If you’re up for a really immersive experience, why not try a Downton Abbey-themed day or set up some parlour games and a delicious high tea in the comfort of your accommodation?

Any Downtown Abbey fans in your group? This delightful Cotswold farmhouse close to Bampton (where the series is set) is a brilliant choice for your accommodation. With space for up to 18 and cosy open log fires, your period costume-themed hen is sure to be a success.

Pink Ladies

Dressing up as the Pink Ladies (from Grease) is an enduringly popular theme among hen parties and with good reason. With the Pink Ladies jacket as the minimum costume requirement it’s simple to do, suits all ages and sizes and it’s brilliant in all weathers. If you want to really channel the look, consider a slinky black catsuit a la Sandy or a lilac curly wig to make like Frenchie. Add a beauty spot and some vampy lipstick and you’ve got a look that’d make Rizzo proud.

Want an excuse to show off some moves on the dancefloor later? Why not sign up to a Grease Dancing lesson?

Angels and devils

An angels and devils theme offers the opportunity to dress your hen up in a style that truly befits her character. If she’s an angel, find some beautiful feathered wings and an elegant tiara. If she’s a devil…well, you know what to do!

Bling!

A bling theme for your hen party is really inclusive. Everyone of all ages and styles can get involved. If you want to channel your inner J-Lo, you can go full-blown glitz. If you’re a shy and retiring type, you can tone it down to just a few accessories or a sparkly top.

Your bling theme can easily be extended to your nighttime activities. Head to a casino, glitzy nightclub or fabulous restaurant and get the fizz flowing.

What better way to soothe those tired dancing feet – and feel like a pampered celeb – than luxuriating in a gorgeous hot tub afterwards? Take a look at our range of accommodation with hot tubs.

We hope these tips have helped you discover some doable and fun themes for your hen party. Why not take a look at our full range of accommodation to discover the ideal place to stay on your weekend to remember.
