How to experience Britain’s natural beauty in style

On a bright, sunny day, there are few more beautiful places in the world than the British countryside. Boasting a fantastic network of foot paths, countless protected areas and more breath taking views than you can shake a stick at, the UK’s wide, open green spaces are truly spectacular.

However, just because you enjoy walking, bird watching or animal spotting by day doesn’t mean you want to rough it by night. Luckily, the UK is home to some fantastic luxury holiday homes, making it easy for you to find the perfect nature inspired holiday for you and your nearest and dearest.

The Highlands, Scotland

One of the most beautiful parts of the UK, the Highlands are blessed with both a wealth of wildlife and a stunning landscape. Head to this rugged region to spot a huge selection of wildlife including deer, beaver and even wolves. The skies are also crowded with rare and beautiful birds, with golden eagles, kestrels, merlin, osprey and peregrine falcons all found in the area. Visit Scotland’s wild Highland coast and you may even spot minke whales, orcas, dolphins and seals.

Thanks to the wealth of castles, manor houses and character properties that dot the area, finding luxury holiday destinations for nature lovers is easy. Whether you’re looking for a family escape or planning a large group holiday, there’s guaranteed to be something perfect for your stay.

Where to stay: Glencanisp Lodge, Sutherland, Scotland, sleeps up to 30.

Brecon Beacons, Wales

Ideal for those who want to get out, get active and get close to nature, the Brecon Beacons National Park offers a huge choice of walking routes, breath taking scenery and a wide variety of animal and bird life. As well as walking and climbing, you can have a go at mountain biking, bird watching and even white water rafting. If that all sounds a bit too much like hard work, head to the nearby Penderyn Distillery to sample some of the local tipple before retiring back to your luxurious holiday home for the evening.

Where to stay: The Medieval Barn, Clyro, Hay-on-Wye, Powys, sleeps up to 10.

Sussex, England

Though they may not be as expansive as the Brecon Beacons or the Highlands, the Sussex Downs can still hold their own when it comes to getting close to nature. A designated area of outstanding natural beauty, the downs are dotted with excellent walking routes and are a world away from the hustle and bustle of nearby London. If you’re looking for suitably luxurious holidays for nature lovers within easy reach of the capital, this may well be the perfect destination for you.

Where to stay: Bardown Farm, Wadhurst, East Sussex, sleeps up to 16.

Northumberland, England

Located in England’s wild north east, Northumberland is home to some of the most dramatic and least spoiled countryside in Britain. If you want to be Immersed in nature, base yourself in the heart of the Northumberland National Park and spend your days exploring its panoramic vistas and energetic hiking routes.

Where to stay: Falstone Farmhouse, Hexham, Northumberland, sleeps 10.
