Set deep in the Eden Valley, the castle offers a setting that feels private and welcoming, with space to celebrate in a way that feels truly personal. Staying at the castle is part of the experience. Bedrooms are spread throughout the castle and surrounding properties, offering a mix of historic rooms with 4 poster and vintage beds and comfortable accommodation for guests. Waking up within the castle walls allows your celebration to proceed at an unhurried pace, with close friends and family able to make a full weekend of your special event. Exchange your vows outdoors or within the castle itself. Gather beneath ancient trees along the Yew Walk, beside the river Eden, in the gardens or high on the Norman Keep with views across the valley. Inside, the Great Hall and other historic rooms provide a sense of occasion, where original features and stone walls have witnessed generations of stories. After the ceremony, guests can gather in the grounds, the Lower Hall or on the terrace to raise a glass and enjoy the setting. Wedding breakfasts are hosted in the Great Hall or Old Great Hall, offering a warm and atmospheric space for meals and speeches. As the day continues, the castle’s tavern and halls are the perfect setting for music and dancing. Appleby Castle is suited to weddings of all sizes. Couples may choose an elopement for two, an intimate celebration with close friends and family, or exclusive use of the castle for larger gatherings of up to 100. Each wedding is planned with the support of an experienced coordinator who works closely with couples to shape the day around their wishes, from timings and menus to choosing trusted local suppliers. ## Facilities - **Dog Friendly:** Pets are not allowed in the castle or cottages. - **Accessibility:** We do have a ground floor bedroom but with limited disabled facilities in this Norman castle. - **WiFi:** Free wireless broadband throughout the property. - **Kitchen:** 3 holiday cottages and the Baron's Wing have self catering kitchens included. In the castle there is a commercial kitchen (no self catering). - **Dining Room:** Several dining rooms catering for anything from an intimate gathering to approximately 100 people in the castle. Cottages have open plan living areas. - **Sitting Room:** The Great Hall built in 1454 is the ideal place to sit and relax. There are other smaller rooms too. Open plan living in cottages. - **TV and Music Facilities:** There are no TVs in the bedrooms of the castle. TVs available in cottages. - **Games Room:** Play snooker, bar billiards or darts in the games room. - **Heating and Open Fires:** Open fires in the Great Hall and Old Great Hall. Log burners in the tavern, dining room and sitting room. - **Bedrooms:** Castle has 13: mix of superking, 4 posters, zip/link and doubles. 2 cottages have 2 bedrooms, 1 has 1 bedroom, each has sofa bed. Baron's Wing has 5. - **Linen:** All linen is provided. - **Bathrooms:** Each bedroom in the castle has its own exclusive bathroom. Not all are en suite. The cottages have 1 bathroom in each. - **Children's Facilities:** Games room, or explore the grounds of this Norman castle. - **Outdoor:** 25 acres to explore. River with fishing rights on both sides, 100 metres beneath the ford. - **Swimming Pool:** There is no pool at the castle. Heated swimming pool in the town 200 yards from the front gate, open all year round. - **Parking:** Lots of space for parking for over 200 guests. - **Smoking:** There is a strict no smoking policy inside the castle.
