Barcaldine Castle, also known as the Black Castle, offers a fabulous self catering venue or luxury Bed & Breakfast with exclusive use for groups, in a fantastic setting near Oban.

The hiring of the whole castle offers a truly magnificent setting for birthdays, weddings or family get-togethers. Experience exclusive use of all 6 bedrooms and all amenities including the parlour, great hall and kitchen for a fantastic night or weekend self catering in a traditional 16th-century castle.

Set on the peaceful shores of Loch Creran on the West Coast of Scotland, Barcaldine Castle is one of only a few ancient castles on the Scottish mainland offering accommodation to guests. Set against breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains of Glencoe, Barcaldine Castle is a truly unique place to stay.

We are only a short 15 minute drive into the 'Seafood Capital of Scotland' Oban, where you can enjoy distillery tours, boat trips and taste some of the freshest seafood in Scotland. There's a lot to see and do and we can of course help you decide and make any reservations for you and your group.

Groups can hire the castle exclusively for a night in with your friends or family and enjoy the castle to yourselves for a special occasion or celebration, or just for a luxury get together. If you have a big birthday coming up, why not spend it steeped in history with a truly unbelievable atmosphere.

The Castle is also perfect for couples seeking a romantic break in the Scottish countryside as not only do we hire exclusive use but we also do a bed and breakfast rate per room meaning you can have one or two rooms for smaller parties and share the experience with other guests from all over the world!

Facilities

Our kitchen is a small commercial kitchen, we only use an Aga.
The great hall can seat up to 36 people and has a large open fire.
The great hall and parlour both have open fires.
A music player which has CD, USB and AUX.
Free WiFi and a phone line.
There is no games room.
2 large open fires and central heating.
6 double bedrooms, all completely unique. 2 bedrooms can have a sofa bed suitable for 1 extra person and 1 bedroom (Airds) can be set up as a twin.
All linens and towels provided.
All rooms have en suite bathrooms. 3 rooms with walk in showers and 3 rooms with roll top bath tubs.
As the castle is 400 years old and has a spiral staircase, we do not have disabled facilities. Our bedrooms start on the second floor.
No children under the age of 14 unless the castle is hired with exclusive use.
Castle grounds and gardens with outdoor seating and benches.
There is no pool.
Free parking on the castle grounds.
Strictly no smoking in the castle, however there is a smoking area outside.
Strictly no pets.

Location

We’re pleased to be able to welcome families and groups from abroad for exclusive stays at Barcaldine Castle, easily accessible via Glasgow and Edinburgh airports. In the north of Scotland, near Oban.
Oban, Barcaldine Castle is located just off the A828 Oban to Fort William road on the south shore of Loch Creran, located just 2.5 miles from the village of Benderloch.
Benderloch (1.2 miles).
The Hawthorn (1 mile) is a highly recommended pub style eatery. Oban has a large selection of pubs and restaurants at around a 15 minute drive. Taxis are available.

Please note, these rates are all year round. Our exclusive use rates can be taken all year round, however our Bed and Breakfast option is seasonal from March-November. Airds can be set up as two twin beds or one super king bed. Both Caithness and Lochnell have sofa beds suitable for 1 person.
