The converted 17th century bunkhouse at Birdoswald offers large group accommodation in a fantastic position on Hadrian's Wall overlooking the remains of the Roman Fort. This is a brilliant base for walking groups and for school or youth residential trips exploring the history and geography of this spectacular part of the country or enjoying outside activities.
The bunkhouse has a maximum capacity of 37 people, sleeping between 2 and 8 people in 7 bedrooms equipped with bunk beds. One room has an en suite shower room; all the others have their own individual shower room near to the bedroom. A disabled bedroom with en suite facilities is available on the ground floor of the bunkhouse.
Choose to stay on a self-catering basis and make the most of the kitchen or allow our catering staff to provide meals for you, from breakfast to lunch to dinner. The dining room seats the whole group of 37, and the tables can be folded away to make space for relaxing on bean bags at other times.
Make use of the laundry room with washing and drying machines and space to let your clothes dry.
The location is ideal for walking Hadrian’s Wall, and there is a lot to explore in the area including many Roman sites such as Chesters Roman Fort, Housesteads Roman Fort and Corbridge Roman Town. Set within a 61 hectare estate with views over the Irthing Valley, Birdoswald is the ideal base from which to explore the beautiful Cumbrian and Northumberland landscape, go bird watching at a nearby RSPB reserve, or visit the cities of Carlisle or Newcastle for shopping and much more.
