Brecon Forest Farmhouse is situated in the hills between the Upper Wye and Upper Usk valleys and is surrounded by Brecon Forest.
The self-catering Farmhouse is recommended for use by extended family gatherings and for outdoor activity groups. The comprehensive self-catering facilities are user friendly and, in the summer, the large barbecue on the open-sided, covered patio is a firm favourite. The views over the rear lawn are breathtaking, and at night there is no light pollution. Generally, it is only the bird song that breaks the silence.
The showers, washrooms and toilets were updated in 2024 and are designed for groups with separate male and female staff facilities.
Sleeping facilities are designed so there is flexibility to accommodate males, females, the young and the old with two dormitories and three bedrooms. There are 35 bunk spaces; however, the accommodation is restricted to 30 persons. The sleeping areas are accessed via a central staircase.
The lounge, with comfortable leather settees and a wood-burning stove, has a small reference library with books on subjects related to activities and studies carried out by groups.
Canoe groups utilise the facility as it is convenient for both the Wye and Usk rivers. It is a perfect base for D of E training and expeditions. Golfing groups find the Farmhouse a superb base for the many scenic courses. The forest is an ideal area for field study, orienteering and mountain biking, whilst Triathlon clubs have found the environment most suitable for training weekends. If you are looking for a retreat for mindfulness and well-being activities, the Farmhouse is in the perfect peaceful location.
The Farmhouse can be used for study weekends, supporting deeper learning in, for example, Biology, Geography and Geology. It has also been used for workshops in 'A' level Physics, Music, Dance and Drama. The village hall is opposite the Farmhouse and it has a stage (hire by arrangement). Groups can perform at the end of a workshop in this hall. The local inhabitants welcome this use and support performances.
Brecon Forest Farmhouse is popular with schools, universities, clubs and families, who re-book every year.
