Burwell House has a number of different size rooms downstairs, one of which can be made into a bedroom for guests that may not find it easy to access the upstairs bedrooms. These rooms are ideal for meetings, rehearsal rooms and other activity space. The downstairs also has its own hygiene suite.
There are also a number of satellite buildings, including a craft studio and carpeted multi purpose room. The house is Wi-Fi enabled, and TV and DVD facilities are provided.
Upstairs the 11 bedrooms provide 60 beds in total, ranging from small 2 – 3 bedded rooms to larger dormitory rooms, with bunk beds. If groups do not wish to use any upper bunks there are 37 single beds abd lower bunks in total. All rooms have toilet facilities nearby.
3 acres of landscaped gardens surround the property, containing much of interest, with a large orchard, a meadow area, a wildlife pond and many seating areas. there are various sculptures dotted around the garden which add to the ambience of the place.
Self-catering groups have access to our professionally equipped kitchen facilities, with large ovens, hobs and and hot cupboards. There is plenty of fridge, freezer and food preparation space. There are a number of food outlets in Burwell village itself.
Located 10 miles to the North East of Cambridge, Burwell House is easily accessible, via the A14 and A11, from many parts of the Country, and there is plenty of secure parking on site. We are within a 20 minute drive of Newmarket and Ely railway stations, and are directly on a bus route from Cambridge.
The village of Burwell itself has a number of churches, two small supermarkets, chemist, pubs and gift shops, as well as a number of country walks. There are also a number of nearby visitor attractions, such as Anglesey abbey, Wicken Fen and Cambridge itself.

For those that require it, we can convert a downstairs room into a bedroom, with close access to the fully accessible hygiene suite.

Free Wi-Fi is available. This covers most of the house, upstairs and downstairs. Excellent mobile phone reception and 4G.

Kitchen

Professionally equipped commercial kitchen with large ovens, hot cupboards, hobs and dishwasher, large fridges and a freezer and lots of prep. space

Dining Room

The dining room and adjacent conservatory provide enough space for more than 60 visitors to eat together. A large gazebo - seating 40 - adjoins this.

Sitting Room

2 lounges, the largest of which can seat 50 people on reception/conference seating. Other set ups are possible or all furniture removed if required.

TV and Music Facilities

TV and DVDs are provided in each of the lounges and the main lounge has a small music system (and disco light!). CDs and DVD's are not provided.

Games Room

No games room - though there is loads of space for outdoor play!

Heating and Open Fires

The house is equipped with modern, state of the art gas fired heating. This provides a warm & cosy atmosphere even in the depths of winter.

Bedrooms

11 upstairs bedrooms - 7 dormitory style (sleeping 14, 12, 7, 5, 5, 5, 4) and 4 smaller bedrooms with single beds (sleeping 2, 2, 2, 1).

Provided, including duvets and pillows (but not towels)

Bathrooms

There are 11 modern showers (including fully accessible hygiene suite on the ground floor), and a large number of toilets situated all over the house.

Children's Facilities

3 acres of fabulous garden to explore, let off steam, clamber, hide, play, invent and make dens! High chair available in dining area.

Outdoor

The 3 acres of mature gardens contain many trees, large lawns, and a fully-enclosed pond. We have some noise restrictions due to our village location.

Swimming Pool

None on site. Swimming Pool facilities available nearby in Ely, Newmarket and Cambridge.

Parking

On site secure parking available for 30 cars, as well as plenty of safe roadside parking outside the gates.

Smoking

Designated smoking area in the car park.

Booking Information

Very flexible, self catering pricing, based on: £1940 per 2 night stay for youth groups or £2100 + VAT for commercial groups or families, plus £450 each additional night (+ VAT if applicable).

  • Newmarket about 20 minutes drive. Ely about 30 minutes drive. Cambridge about 30 minutes drive.
  • Small Co-op Supermarket - 200 metres. Large Tesco and Waitrose in Newmarket (15 mins drive).
  • The Anchor Pub, The Fox Pub, Spice Cottage Indian Restaurant, The Handy Plaice, Elk Coffee Shop. All within 5 minutes walk.
  • London Stansted.
  • Cambridge Train Station, Ely Train Station, Newmarket Train Station - all within 30 minutes drive.
  • Service 10 from Cambridge to Newmarket. Bus stop approx 100 metres from house.
