Butley Abbey Farmhouse enjoys a secluded setting near the Suffolk coast within an AONB, surrounded by woods and fields. It is an oasis of peace and privacy, perfect for family gatherings, stylish celebrations or country weekends with a group of friends, and offered on a self-catering basis or we can put you in touch with a good selection of local caterers.
This Georgian farmhouse with its attractive façade overlooks a large garden, which includes a tennis court and croquet lawn. Behind it are some unused farm buildings belonging to the property and close by, the stately mediaeval Butley Priory gatehouse.
There's plenty of space to enjoy, with the farmhouse offering 3 sitting rooms, all with open fires, and a large dining room seating up to 24. All 12 bedrooms are spacious doubles with large beds, of which 3 can be twin rooms. The entire house has recently been refurnished.
There are miles of excellent walking and biking through fields and forest on your doorstep. The Butley Creek estuary is 1.5 miles away, with a great range of bird life in Summer and Winter. Butley village and its ancient Oyster Inn is just 5 minutes by car.
The pretty coastal village of Orford is 15 minutes by car, or you can bike or walk there, using the Butley Ferry during the Summer. Choose from sailing, crabbing and river trips from Orford quay on the Alde Estuary, or visit the famous Pump House Bakery and Chocolate Shop, the Butley-Orford Oysterage restaurant and several fine pubs. With its grocery, butcher and fish shop you need go no further for supplies.
For music lovers, nearby Snape Maltings has concerts year-round and also hosts a Saturday Farmers' Market and a range of good shops. Aldeburgh is 20 minutes away, a handsome Victorian resort perched on the sea front with a range of pubs, cafes and restaurants. Golf courses are available at Aldeburgh, Thorpeness and Woodbridge, and for horse riders there is nearby Poplar Park.
