Ideally placed on the edge of Snowdonia National Park and the Dyfi Biosphere, CAT's on-site accommodation is a fantastic choice for families, groups (large or small), couples or individuals looking to explore the local area.

The Wales Institute for Sustainable Education (WISE) is an award-winning venue with impressive eco credentials. WISE caters for conferences, students studying on CAT’s masters programmes and short courses, weddings and corporate events – and its 4 star group accommodation is also available for groups looking for somewhere unique for their residential stay at CAT, we can also accommodate bed & breakfast bookings.

Eco Cabins:
The Eco Cabins are two green roofed cabins overlooking CAT's allotments. They are not on mains water or mains sewage, instead we store water from the surrounding hillsides in a large reservoir on site and safely use this for a variety of purposes. Hot water for the cabins is generated by solar thermal panels on the grass roof as well as via the woodstove for heat and hot water.

WISE: no kitchen but the cafe on site can provide full catering. Eco Cabins: kitchen facilities with gas stoves and ovens.
The Cafe is available for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is open to all guests. The Cabins have no designated dining room but has group seating.
The WISE Building has communal seating areas and the Eco Cabins have group sitting rooms.
No TV or music facilities in any accommodation type.
Free WiFi on site.
There is no games room.
Rooms are heat-regulated by our large on-site biomass boiler. Showers are supplemented using solar thermal energy.
The bedrooms in WISE are en suite twin bedded rooms. Eco Cabins have two bunk beds in each room and two single bedded rooms per cabin.
Fresh linen and bedding supplied in all accommodation types.
All WISE bedrooms are en suite. Each cabin has easily accessible bathroom facilities.
Bedrooms appropriate for wheelchair users are available upon request.
All accommodation guests get free access to the Visitor Centre which has kids' activities during school holidays and a playground.
Communal areas and direct access to the quarry trail which takes visitors up into the quarry through the beautiful CAT woodland.
There is no pool.
Free parking is available on site.
Designated smoking areas are provided.
Only guide dogs are allowed on site at present. This is to help protect our ground nesting birds.


Location information available from our web site. Situated between Corris and Machynlleth on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park.
The Centre for Alternative Technology is situated just 3.2 miles from Machynlleth in Mid-Wales.
Machynlleth has supermarkets and other shops. We also have an eco-store on site which sells a large variety of gift style products.
We have a bar available on-site which is open when we have large groups in or a course on. The closest pub to CAT is the Tafarn Dwynant in Ceinws which is a short drive or medium length walk away.

The Visitor Centre is about three miles north of the Machynlleth train station, so you can continue your journey by bus, taxi, bicycle or on foot.
Buses travel from Machynlleth to CAT approximately every hour from Monday to Saturday. There are less frequent services on Sundays, with four buses a day.
