Exclusive use of your very own magical 16th century Scottish castle surrounded by 10 acres of lawns and mature woodland to explore. Colliston Castle offers guests a fantastic adventure staying in this historic environment of turrets, towers and vaulted rooms but with the advantage of modern conveniences such as central heating, modern bathrooms and a newly installed eco rustic wooden barrelled hot tub, heated by a wood burning stove. Electric sauna.

Whatever the occasion for your gathering, it is bound to involve a special meal to be enjoyed in the stunning formal dining room with space for 18+. There is a fully equipped catering kitchen although you might prefer to arrange with the owner for outside caterers to come in and do it for you. On balmier evenings, take advantage of the outside patio and seating areas for a barbecue while taking in the spectacular surroundings of the castle.

The Canoustie Golf Course is just 5 miles away from Colliston Castle as well as opportunities for river fishing, sea fishing, walking and seaside recreation. There is so much choice to keep all members of your group happy!

Enter the castle via the vaulted impressive entrance hall, enough to whet your appetite for a wonderful experience. The 4 reception rooms are on the first floor with a variety of extraordinary spaces for all ages and tastes including a drawing room and a turret library. There is even a smaller lounge with a TV, perfect for children to relax away from the adults.

The kitchen is very well equipped for large group catering with pretty much 2 of everything, including dishwashers. There is a handy utility room next door too, with a washing machine.

Bedrooms are a lovely combination of doubles, 4 posters, singles and twins to suit all members of your gathering. We have 4 en suites but bathroom facilities overall are plentiful and conveniently positioned. One has a whirlpool bath and another original Victorian features, while others have modern walk in showers for maximum comfort.

Dining room for 18+ for formal dinners. Informal dining for 18+ in the garden room.

Sitting Room

Lounge area with comfy seating, TV and wood burning stove. The Great Hall has seating with an open fire and there is a library in the corner turret.

TV and Music Facilities

5 televisions with Freeview: one in the garden room, the lounge, great hall, snug and peebles There is also a DVD player.

Games Room

At present the games room is unavailable due to building work. A selection of board games are available.

Heating and Open Fires

Central heating fired by a wood pellet boiler. Wood burning stove in the Drawing Room with logs supplied, open fire in the Great Hall. Wood provided.

Bedrooms

9 bedrooms: 3 x 4 poster doubles en suite; 1 superking ensuite, 1 with 4 poster double and 2 singles; 2 doubles; 1 with 2 doubles or twins; 1 twin.

Linen

Bed linen and towels are included.

Bathrooms

7 bathrooms: 4 en suite, family bathroom with whirlpool tub and walk in shower, original Victorian bath. 2 walk in showers and 1 WC on ground floor.

Children's Facilities

Cots and high chairs are available, with cot sheet, please provide cot bedding. Wendy house and outside toys.

Outdoor

Patio eating and seating areas with bbq grill. children's bicycles but with no helmets provided. 10 acres of park and woodland to explore.

Swimming Pool

There is no swimming pool at Colliston. There is a hot tub, however.

Parking

There is ample on-site secure parking.

Smoking

No smoking inside the castle please.

Booking Information

Min. stay 3 nights. Deposit of 50% required to secure the booking (can be split into easy payments), balance 6 weeks before visit. Changeover days variable. arrival 4pm and depart by 10am but we can be flexible. Number of pets, liaise with owners.

Location

Located 5 miles inland from harbour town of Arbroath. 20 miles NE of Dundee. Edinburgh is 2 hours drive from the castle. Magnificent sand dune beach at Lunan Bay 4 miles away.

  • Buses from Colliston village into Arbroath or to Friockheim.
  • Arbroath railway station is 5 miles away and Dundee 20 miles.
  • Arbroath is a historic harbour town known for its smoked haddock or Arbroath Smokies, just 5 miles away from Colliston Castle.
  • Arbroath 5 miles away has major supermarkets.
  • Arbroath has a range of eateries and good food pubs. Butt and Ben restaurant in Authmithie is excellent, but you will need to book for groups. Or Gordon's at Inverkeilor, 5 star.
  • Dundee Airport is 21 miles away and Edinburgh Airport is 79 miles.
