Coryton House, Coryton, Okehampton, Devon

2 - 16 8 Bedrooms 20 Dining

Large dog friendly house sleeping 16 for family holidays and weekends in beautiful countryside near Dartmoor

Holiday Rental for Groups of Families and Friends. Coryton House, Coryton, Okehampton, Devon, sleeps 2 - 16 in 8 bedrooms.

Coryton House is an elegant Grade II listed country house. It is in a sheltered sunny south facing position above sheep filled fields. It looks across the exceptionally peaceful and beautiful Lyd valley, and is hidden away from any tourist traffic and the world in general. The house is ideal for getting family and friends together with space for plenty of privacy but great opportunities for having fun together.

The house is on the side of the valley with terraced garden and wood above, and fields below. The sunny terrace is sheltered from the wind but has expansive views; and is also a fabulous spot for star watching at night.

The garden and woodland are full of camellias, snowdrops, bluebells, wild garlic, and hydrangeas. In the summer the swallows twist and turn above the garden in gangs. At night the bats take over. The owls hoot all around the year!

Most of the furniture has been in our family for generations and much loved. There are family portraits, modern art, and school photos spanning more than a century. We have a growing collection of exotic and eccentric hats which you can borrow while you are here.

The studded front door has huge bolts. The stone flagged entrance hall has space for dog beds, wellies and walking sticks, and the large loo has a splendid view.

The dining hall is 40' long with warm wooden parquet flooring. The dining table seats anything from 2 to 20. Comfy seating in Knole sofas and deep armchairs around an open fire. Huge mirrors reflect the chandeliers.

The sunlit south facing sitting room has a gorgeous view, a wood burning stove and a leaded window with long wooden window seat and radiator underneath. There is a big bookcase with a range of books, including local guides and maps, board games, playing cards, and jigsaw puzzles.

There is a well-equipped kitchen: 4 door AGA, electric hob and oven, microwave, 2 Belfast sinks, fridge, and 2 dishwashers. Pantry with deep freeze and another tall fridge. The kitchen table seats up to10.

The house has 8 bedrooms (4 en suite), 6 bathrooms and 2 downstairs loos. Lots of coat hooks and boot space by back door. Washing machine, tumble drier and drying racks.
