This country house is the perfect destination to gather friends and family together in a manor absolutely made for celebrations, holidays and relaxation. Crag Hall is a Grade 2 listed Georgian property bursting with period features including high ceilings and full-length windows, yet maintaining the welcoming feel of a large family home.

Set in the beautiful Peak District National Park just below Shuttlingslow (The Matterhorn of Cheshire), the house commands wonderful views over the Cheshire Plain and further afield into North Wales. Extensive grounds and mature gardens of Crag Hall offer plenty of space for youngsters to run around and indulge in a game of croquet or badminton on the lawns. During the evening, the large snooker table in the games room provides a wonderful opportunity for a family tournament while enjoying a chat and a drink, always a huge hit.

Formal dining for 20 allows everyone in the party the perfect excuse to share a special meal, perhaps prepared by a professional chef, who can be hired in to cook up a celebration feast. A barbecue is available by prior arrangement for an alfresco supper on a balmy evening in the garden, with ample seating for all. Self-catering for the troops in the well-equipped kitchen is made easy with multiple ovens, hobs and fridges as well as an AGA and dishwasher.

Living spaces with comfy seating and open fires allow flexibility for socialising so that everyone can gather together to watch a film or chat, while individuals wanting a bit of privacy can choose one of the other sitting rooms.

The 11 bedrooms have been personally designed by The Countess of Derby to combine high quality soft furnishings with original furniture, offering guests luxury and amazing views over the surrounding countryside. The convenient mix of superkings, twins and singles ensures everyone is happy. Facilities are plentiful with 3 family bathrooms and 2 ensuites.

For a change of scenery, the local pub is within walking distance and the towns of Macclesfield and Buxton are within an easy driving distance (15 mins).

Dog Friendly

Dogs are welcome downstairs only at Crag Hall on stone floors but must not be left unattended. A dog room is available for sleeping.

Kitchen

The very well equipped kitchen has 2 electric hobs/ovens, an AGA, dishwasher, 3 fridges, 1 freezer, 1 washing machine and a tumble dryer.

Dining Room

The formal dining room holds 20 guests. Less formal meals can be enjoyed at the kitchen table or a barbecue in the garden outside.

Sitting Room

The property has 3 lounges including a large drawing room and study with lots of comfy sofas and armchairs. There are open fires in each of the rooms.

TV and Music Facilities

Crag Hall has 4 TVs with Freeview, 2 DVD players, 1 CD/radio, 3 iPhone docks and an XBox .

Games Room

Crag Hall has a large snooker room for guests to enjoy.

Heating and Open Fires

There is limited central heating throughout the downstairs and open fires in the lounge areas. Electric heaters can be used in bedrooms.

Bedrooms

11 bedrooms: 6 superking (2 en suite with bath, basin & WC), 3 twins and 2 singles.

Linen

All bedding and bathroom towels are provided. Housekeeper back of house most days, but will not make beds or clean. Available to answer queries.

Bathrooms

In addition to the en suites, there are 3 more family bathrooms with bath, basin and WC. Two including standalone showers.

Children's Facilities

We have access to a cot (own bedding required) and a high chair if required by prior arrangement. These cannot be guaranteed.

Outdoor

Extensive lawned gardens to the front and side with badminton, croquet and plenty of garden furniture. Barbecue available.

Swimming Pool

There is no pool but there are opportunities for wild swimming not too far away from the property.

Parking

Ample secure off road parking.

Smoking

Please don't smoke inside the house.

Booking Information

Arrival time is 4pm and depart by 10am. Friday is changeover day for weeks and weekends. Monday is changeover day for mid week breaks. A deposit of 1/3 of the total is required to secure a booking and the balance 8 weeks before. A fully refundable good housekeeping bond of £1000 is mandatory.

Location

Crag Hall is within walking distance of Wildboarclough, just a 15 minute drive from Buxton and Macclesfield. The house is easily accessible from the A53 and the M6 is 1 hour 15 away.

  • No local buses.
  • The market town of Macclesfield and the spa town of Buxton are both a 15 minute drive from the property.
  • Macclesfield and Buxton have all of the main supermarkets including Morrisons, Aldi and Tesco.
  • The Stanley Arms Hotel is in the nearby village of Wildboarclough serving good pub food. A range of eateries to suit all can be found in Buxton and Macclesfield.
  • Manchester Airport is approximately 40 minutes from Crag Hall.
  • Macclesfield Railway Station is a 15 minute drive from the property.
