5 Star Craigengar Lodge has come to mean so much to the diverse groups who stay. Guests absolutely love it! Stylish, contemporary, fantastically well-equipped with very comfy beds in 5 en suite bedrooms, it has an all-year round appeal. With its huge picture windows, sofas to sink into, panoramic views, Sonos sound system, mood lighting, amazing sense of space inside and out.

Craigengar has the added bonus of location and accessibility. Its immediate location is up a good farm track off the A70 Edinburgh to Lanark road. Right beside fields of grazing sheep, guests need not worry about disturbing neighbours, only woolly ones! Yet this wonderfully rural feel belies the fact that this eco-Lodge, with its Gold Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme, is only 35 minutes from the heart of Edinburgh and 30 minutes from Edinburgh airport.

Craigengar has 14 sleeping spaces in 5 bedrooms. There are also 2 double sofa beds in the spacious Gallery area and these guests have access to a sixth bathroom downstairs.

“G”, the owner, who welcome new arrivals to this rural hide-away, lives a mile away on Crosswoodhill farm. Regularly winning prestigious Tourism “Oscars” for Crosswoodhill, guests can feel reassured that there is someone close at hand if needed. Also on Crosswoodhill Farm, a few fields away, are 3 other holiday cottages. The properties can be booked individually or together but generally the smaller cottages are only available for a full Saturday to Saturday week, whereas Craigengar can be booked for Friday to Monday weekends, Monday to Monday or Friday to Friday 7 day stays, or Monday to Friday or shorter weekday stays.

WiFi

A landline supplied for incoming and outgoing calls charged at cost. Wi-Fi facilities via satellite. Patchy mobile reception for some.

Accessibility

Craigengar is suitable for wheel-chair users, as is our smaller cottage, Steading, which has accreditation .

Dog Friendly

Well-behaved pets welcome in all of our cottages. A dog fee is charged: £20 per week per dog. There are some rules!

Kitchen

Amazingly well equipped kitchen. Lots of gadgets. Dishwasher, electric double oven, induction hob, fridge, freezer, Jumbo fridge /freezer, microwave.

Dining Room

Versatile dining area adjacent to open plan kitchen with different table configurations seating up to 18. Ample cutlery, china and glasses, dishes.

Sitting Room

Very spacious living area downstairs with lots of comfy seating. Gallery area upstairs with sofa beds and separate TV, etc for those seeking quiet!.

TV and Music Facilities

7 TVs., 2 large in the 2 living areas, with every bedroom having a TV and DVD. Radio. Sonos sound system in living areas. Wii, playstation,

Games Room

No games room as such, but lots of toys, games and jigsaws in a large cupboard upstairs and outdoor games equipment supplied.

Heating and Open Fires

Craigengar has underfloor heating supplied via a ground source heating pump. Every room has heating controls. Also a multifuel stove for ambience.

Bedrooms

5 bedrooms, 2 downstairs suitable for wheelchairs. All ensuite. Some single beds can be ziplinked. Full info on bedrooms on Crosswoodhill website.

Linen

All linen and towels are provided and included in rental and changed weekly. Each cottage has a washing machine and tumble drier for guests' use.

Bathrooms

All 6 bathrooms have power showers, toilets, sinks, some have baths. One Jack and Jill bathroom downstairs suitable for wheelchairs

Children's Facilities

Incredibly child-friendly with lots of toys, books, games. It's difficult sometimes for owners to coax them away. Cots and high-chairs available.

Outdoor

2000 acres of hill farm to explore on the doorstep. A play area exclusive to the lodge. A relaxing rural location a million miles away from city buzz.

Swimming Pool

No swimming pool on site, but various pools within a 20 mile radius. A great leisure pool for younger children 8 miles away.

Parking

Lots of easy, free parking within yards from all our properties. Large vehicles not a problem. This contrasts markedly with an Edinburgh base.

Smoking

Ashtrays are provided outside. No smoking inside, please.

Week or weekend bookings available in Craigengar, changeover Fri or Mon.

Location

On Pentland Hills on main A70, one mile west of junction with B7008. Very accessible and yet quiet. The A70 is not a busy road.

Edinburgh is only 18 miles to its heart. Nearest town is West Calder, with Livingston close by.
Nearest shops are in West Calder, 6 miles away. Newsagent, PO, Bank, supermarket. 8 miles away is Livingston Asda supermarket open until midnight.

Edinburgh 30 minutes drive. Glasgow about 70 - 90 minute drive. A car is essential here.
West Calder Train Station with a frequent service to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
