With mountains and sea on its door step, and just over two hours from Manchester, Cwm Pennant is nestled between the Western coast of North Wales (Lleyn Peninsula) and the edge of Snowdonia. Cwm Pennant is an ideal base for outdoor activities and educational residential programmes for a wide range of youth groups and schools.

Cwm Pennant offers flexible accommodation in a range of dorm sizes (one 16-bed dorm, one 10-bed dorm, one 8-bed dorm, one 6-bed room and four 4-bed rooms as well as a leaders' room). Our dining room and lounge are spacious and accommodate small and large groups and our training room also doubles up as classroom and games room.

Our extensive grounds provide access to orienteering and archery and you can literally walk onto the hill to Moel Hebog and the Nantlle Ridge, or visit the Cwm Pennant Valley with its gentler slopes, or the nearby Lleyn Peninsula.

From Key Stage 2 Summer Term residential programmes to DofE Gold training, college skills assessment and adventurous training, Cwm Pennant benefits from strong facilities and an ideal location in this fantastic part of North Wales.

All of our staff are professionally qualified with extensive experience and hold enhanced DBS clearances.

So, whether you are simply looking for a fun time away or you wish to spend time working on a particular area of the curriculum or key skills through the medium of outdoor learning, we can design an action-packed programme for you.

We will perform all of the relevant risk assessments needed and provide a professionally qualified and experienced instructor to work with your group and ensure their safety and well-being throughout.

In addition, we also provide all specialist safety equipment and safety back-up.


Two fully-equipped kitchens are available, depending on group size.
Our dining room can sit 50.
We have a large and comfy lounge on the first floor with sofas, games and plenty of reading.
There is a TV and DVD player in the main lounge.
Free WiFi is available in the building. There is limited mobile signal in the immediate area.
Our games room currently hosts a ping pong table.
The property benefits from central heating throughout.
We have 16-bedded, one 10-bedded and one 8-bedded dormitories, as well one 6-bedded room and four 4-bedded rooms.
Linen, pillows and duvets are provided. Guests do need to bring their own towels although we have a few spares should you forget yours.
The bunkhouse offers separate female and male shower rooms and toilets, as well as family bathroom and a disabled shower room.
The building is accessible to guests with limited mobility, with ground floor bedrooms, a disabled shower room and provision and use of ramps.
There are games available for children in the lounge and plenty of room to run around safely on the grounds, as well as a five-a-side football pitch.
We have a small outdoor dining area and a fire pit popular for bonfires and marshmallow grilling.
The nearest swimming pool is at the Porthmadog Leisure Centre just four miles away.
The building is next to its own car park with CCTV.
This is a non-smoking building.
Pets are not allowed inside the building (with the exception of guide dogs in smaller rooms only) but are welcome on the grounds.


Located within Snowdonia National Park, the hostel is situated 4 miles from Porthmadog, just 1.5 miles from the A487. It is a quiet rural property.
The nearest town is Porthmadog, 4 miles away, and the nearest village is Tremadog, 3 miles away.
Porthmadog offers a range of shops and amenities and a couple of supermarkets. For convenience shops, a small corner store is available in Tremadog.
Tremadog is a great place to eat and drink out, with at least three good pubs/eateries and restaurants. Lively and welcoming.

Booking Information

Weekend hire (Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon) for up to 56 guests starts at £1,550 in Spring/Summer and from £1,450 in Autumn/Winter. Damages are charged at cost.

Porthmadog is the nearest station with trains to Bangor (40 minutes away) more frequent.
Buses stop on the main road, the A487, about 1.5 miles from the hostel.
The nearest airport is Manchester (about 2.5 hours) or Liverpool John Lennon (about 2 hours).
