Dominey's Yard is located in the pretty Dorset village of Buckland Newton.

Originally 4 Victorian farm workers cottages, Dominey’s Yard, renovated in 2021, is now a beautiful collection of cottages available to rent individually or as a whole.

Poacher’s and Gamekeeper’s Cottages sleep 4 guests in one double and one twin room with bathroom complete with large walk-in shower.

Woodcutter’s Cottage sleeps 4 guests in one double and one twin room. The bathroom has a bath with shower over.

Gardener’s Cottage sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms. One is a super king double which can be made up as a twin, this room benefits from an en suite shower room. A further double and a twin room share a family bathroom with double ended bath with shower attachment and a downstairs shower room.

The cottages are all beautifully finished with quality linen and furnishings. Well designed and thoughtfully kitted out, guests should find everything they need, from a Nespresso coffee machine to comfy sofas and beds, topped off with large walk-in showers and fluffy white towels.

Please note that Woodcutter’s and Gardener’s do have original Dorset Winder staircases which are steep. We are able to provide stair gates along with baby/toddler equipment if required.

Each cottage has its own private patio with table and chairs and BBQ. Access is available to the beautiful gardens for all to enjoy. Within the grounds there is a play area, along with adult games such as Giant Jenga, Connect 4 and Swing ball. The outdoor heated pool (May to end of Sep) is available for all guests to use and is nestled into the pretty gardens.

The village has a well-stocked shop and the Gaggle of Geese pub is located at the end of our garden, with access through a secret gate –what’s not to love?!

Scenic walking, with footpaths direct from our grounds, provide a great car-free day of exploring. Further afield, within easy driving distance, is the famous Jurassic Coast with towns and historic sights to visit such as Lyme Regis, Bridport and Weymouth to the west and Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and Corfe Castle to the east.  The pretty town of Sherborne and the historic County town of Dorchester are a short drive away.

Swimming Pool

Large outdoor heated swimming pool open from 8am-8pm from 1st May to 30th Sep. Guests use the pool at their own risk.

Log burner in each cottage - first basket of logs are complimentary. Logs available to buy on site. Central heating in all cottages.

Everyone Can Dine Together

Gardener's Cottage has the capacity for the dining table to be extended and an extra table can be put in to accommodate everyone for meals.

Linen

Quality white bed linen is provide along with a hand towel and bath towel per person. Guests will need to bring an extra towel to use for the pool.

Kitchen

Large fridge/freezer, ceramic hob, 2 oven cooker/grill. toaster, kettle microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, washing machine and dishwasher.

TV and Music Facilities

Smart TV/Freeview and DAB/Bluetooth radio/speaker.

Parking

Complimentary on site parking.

All cottages have their own private patio, barbecue, dining table and chairs, all with views overlooking the pretty gardens.

Booking Information

Minimum 2 night stay.

Short breaks available all year, and we try to be as flexible as possible, so please get in touch with your preferred dates.

Cottages available to rent indvidually or any combination.

Changeover any day, usually a Friday in summer holidays but we are very flexible.

Non-refundable 30% deposit required on booking with the balance payable 8 weeks prior to arrival.

Payment can be made by credit/debit card or bank transfer.

We suggest taking out holiday insurance to cover you against any unforseen circumstances.

We don’t accept Hen and Stag groups, or dogs.

Location

Dominey’s Yard holiday cottages can be found in the pretty west Dorset village of Buckland Newton, nestled in the Piddle Valley, rural yet only a 15 minute drive to the historic towns of Sherborne and Dorchester (trains from London run from both stations). There are footpaths leading direct from the grounds so exploring the countryside on foot couldn’t be easier.

The Jurassic Coast World Heritage site is only about a 25 minute drive and has endless places to explore.

  • Weymouth – Nearest sandy beach with traditional funfair and donkey rides 20 miles (35 mins drive)
  • West Bay and Bridport 24 miles (40 mins drive)
  • Lyme Regis – world renowned for fossil hunting! 30 miles (1 hour drive)
  • Corfe Castle and Village – the dramatic ruins of Corfe Castle stand on a natural hill guarding the main route through the Purbeck Hills and the seaside town of Swanage, with it’s steam railway and the beautiful sandy beach of Studland are close by.  27 miles (45 mins drive)
  • Lulworth Castle/Cove and Durdle Door – one of the most iconic images of Dorset – 23 miles (40 mins drive)
  • Monkey World – 20 miles (30 mins drive)
  • Bovington Tank Musem 20 miles (30 mins drive)
  • Dorchester – visit the Roman Town House and Amphitheatre and stand in the dock where the Martyrs stood trial
  • Sherborne – a beautiful and historic market town, home to Sherborne Abbey, Castle (the former home of Sir Walter Raleigh) and Gardens. The town itself has a wide range of individually owned shops, boutiques and antique shops to while away the afternoon
  • Village pub - 1 min walk - located at the bottom of the garden.
  • Well stocked village shop - 10 min walk. Sherborne - Waitrose and Sainsburys.
  • Dorchester and Sherborne - 15 min drive.
  • Bournemouth Airport - 45 min drive.
  • Dorchester – the county town - and Sherborne.
