## About The Property

The Downside School Plunkett Bunkhouse was previously used as a school building and has been refurbished to accommodate visiting groups to the area or those who wish to rent group accommodation. Larger groups can take the whole, or for smaller groups it is possible to hire half the bunkhouse (School or Abbey Road side), at lower rates.

Surrounded by the glorious Somerset countryside, close to Downside Abbey and the School, this bunkhouse is in easy reach of Bath, Wells and the Mendip Hills.

The bunkhouse has been tastefully renovated with twin, triple and rooms with a mix of single beds and bunks and has separate "leader" accommodation. There are also study rooms, sitting rooms and a TV area within the main communal self-catering kitchen. All bathroom facilities are shared. The bunkhouse is available as a whole, or you are welcome to rent one side of the house or another. This is also perfect for groups who wish to separate younger/older children or by gender.

It is always a pleasure to welcome school groups, church groups, touring sports sides and those who just want a rest and recharge week away to enjoy the delightful countryside in Somerset. Local activities such as caving, climbing, diving, golf, sailing, and walking all take place within a few miles of the bunkhouse.

Catering by special arrangement. All bedding provided, guests should bring towels.

## Facilities

- **Dog Friendly:** No pets - sorry.
- **Accessibility:** The bunkhouse can be accessed via a gentle slope from the side road. We have ground floor bedrooms and bathroom facilities not far from the kitchen.
- **WiFi:** WiFi is available.
- **Kitchen:** A communal kitchen with hob, oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, and normal crockery/cutlery. A good space with a lovely outside terrace to enjoy.
- **Dining Room:** Dining in the kitchen area (seats 12) and separate dining rooms (one on each side of the house) which can seat 8 in each. Dining on the terrace too!
- **Sitting Room:** Sofas and a TV within the kitchen area provide the perfect area to relax. Separate sitting rooms too for quiet time!
- **TV and Music Facilities:** There is a wall-mounted screen within the kitchen.
- **Games Room:** There is no games room, but board games are available.
- **Heating and Open Fires:** Central heating.
- **Bedrooms:** 16 bedrooms offering single and bunk beds with separate leader accommodation.
- **Linen:** All bed linen is provided. Please bring towels.
- **Bathrooms:** There are shared bathroom facilities within the house. All showers - no baths.
- **Children's Facilities:** The bunkhouse is suitable for children, however cots and high chairs can be provided by special arrangement.
- **Outdoor:** The house has a large terrace and lawn outside the kitchen with tables/benches for outside dining. Other outdoor facilities available by arrangement.
- **Swimming Pool:** Arrangements can be made by separate agreement for you to hire the School pool and lifeguards.
- **Parking:** Free! There is parking on the road which is adjacent to the house or by agreement in the school grounds.
- **Smoking:** No smoking please.

## Booking Information

- The entire bunkhouse can be booked accommodating 39. There are two sides to the bunkhouse and you are therefore welcome to book one side at a time which sleeps 19 or 20. A 25% deposit is required on booking, remainder due prior to arrival. Check out by 9am, check in after 2pm. Min stay 2 nights.

Near Bath and the Mendip Hills. Close to Downside Abbey and historic Wells.

### What's Nearby?

- **Location:** Radstock or Wells. The World Heritage City of Bath isn't far away either, if you are looking for something a little larger.
- **Shop:** Chilcompton - where there is a Co-op. The closest supermarkets are in Midsomer Norton or Shepton Mallet. Wells has a lovely high street with the normal shops as well as good coffee shops and pubs.
- **Food and Drink:** In the villages of Stratton-on-the-Fosse and Chilcompton there are pubs. Would highly recommend a trip to the Holcombe Inn.
- **Airport:** Bristol Airport is only 40 minutes away. Heathrow is a 2 hour drive, however the train from Heathrow comes to Bath Spa Train station which is only 25 minutes from the bunkhouse.
- **Train:** Bath Spa is the nearest train station, with direct trains from London Paddington taking just 1 hour 20 minutes. Taxis are available from the train station and take 25 minutes to get to the bunkhouse.
- **Bus:** We are also fortunate to have a very good coach and bus station in Bath. Easy and frequent connections to London. There is also a bus stop outside of the bunkhouse with routes to Wells and Bath.
