Historic Duns Castle, dating from 1320 and located in the Scottish Borders an hour from Edinburgh, is set within a 1200-acre estate and has been a family home for 300 years.

The Castle and estate cottages can be booked individually or as a group, for up to 58 guests in total. The Castle can seat 60 guests for a formal dinner. Additional B&B accommodation is available within walking distance in the town of Duns.

The Castle is a haven of beauty and tranquility, let on an exclusive basis for weddings, private hire, group holidays, family celebrations and corporate retreats. Guests can participate in various activities or simply unwind and relax to make the most of their stay. In partnership with the Scottish Wildlife Trust, the estate boasts its own nature reserve complemented by extensive forest trails and a network of walks through parkland, woods and past stunning lakes.

The Castle has a homely and authentic feel and we want you to feel quickly at home and to enjoy every aspect of your stay. Our friendly staff will work with you and draw on our extensive network of preferred suppliers to help you plan and organise your perfect event.

Each cottage has its own character and style, and all are well equipped.

We can arrange several fun or team-building activities including archery, clay pigeon shooting, mini-highland games, hovercrafting, 4x4 driving, falconry, nature tours as well as a host of cultural experiences from wine and whisky tastings to murder-mystery, story-telling and art classes.

The Berwickshire town of Duns is within easy walking distance and boasts a historic town trail, several excellent pubs, shops and bistro-style restaurants as well as a museum commemorating local motor sport legend and twice Formula 1 world champion Jim Clark.

The beautiful wood panelled dining room with impressive log fireplace can seat up to 60 guests for dinner.

Guests have a private sitting room for their use during their stay, with a wood stove, grand piano, TV and bluetooth speaker. Views over the estate

TV and Music Facilities

We do not have TVs in the castle bedrooms but we do have a TV, grand piano and a Bose sound system in the sitting room for guests to enjoy.

Lovely large billiard room.

Heating and Open Fires

Central heating throughout and a large wood fire in the dining room, with a wood burning stove heating the sitting room.

Bedrooms

Duns Castle has 12 bedrooms: 4 four-poster beds, 4 doubles, 3 twin rooms and a single room. The cottages can accommodate up to a further 31 guests.

Linen

All linen, towels, flannels, hair dryers, basic toiletries and bathrobes are provided. Ironing boards and irons available to guests.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms are supplied with toiletries. 5 en suite and 4 additional bathrooms.

Children's Facilities

We welcome families and children. Additional beds and cots that can be added to rooms by arrangement. Many of our activities are child-friendly.

Outdoor

Duns Castle lake and nature reserve has beautiful secluded walks. Tennis court, croquet and preferred providers with a range of outdoor activities

Swimming Pool

We do not have a pool but there is a public pool in Duns.

Parking

Ample private parking.

Smoking

No smoking in the castle please.

Duns Castle is set in 1200 acres of woodlands hills and fields, near the ancient small market town of Duns, Berwickshire, Scotland.

  • Buses go from Duns Market Square to various local destinations including Berwick-upon-Tweed.
  • Berwick-upon-Tweed and Dunbar train stations are both about 16 miles away on the East Coast main line from London to Scotland.
  • Duns, about a 10 - 15 min walk from the castle.
  • In Duns, about a 10 - 15 min walk from the castle.
  • Edinburgh airport is about an hours drive from the castle. Newcastle airport slightly further, about 90 mins. Glasgow airport is 2 hours away. Helicopters can land at the castle by arrangement.
