Imposing yet informal and comfortable house sleeping 16 with games room, for family holidays near Lavenham
Holiday Rental for Groups of Families and Friends. Earls Hall, Suffolk, East Anglia, sleeps 6 - 16 in 6 bedrooms.
Earls Hall is a 6 bedroom, 3 bathroom house in West Suffolk which can accommodate 18 people in normal times.
There used to be tenants in the wing so it is separable from the main house and a group of 6 can be comfortable in each part. We do not intend to offer the wing separately from the main house, only additionally.
Relaxed and with a good kitchen, the house is perfect for a quiet country weekend in a multi-generation group, or for a family celebration. Please note that there are neighbouring houses over the road so this is not the place for a noisy gathering.
The house has a certain dignity, dating back to the 17th century, and offers a warm and relaxed welcome to its guests. Bygone grandeur vies with the seventies style of some of the furnishings and wallpapers, which have survived the passing decades, adding humour and humanity to the house. This is a much loved, charismatic family home, offering the opportunity to get together with family or friends in a peaceful rural setting.
Earls Hall is set in 4 acres of beautifully kept organic gardens, with a stream, vegetable garden and orchard, of which guests are welcome to pick the produce. The garden and our adjoining fields are pesticide-free so the wildlife is abundant. There are good walks from the house.
In the bounds of the village of Cockfield in the heart of Suffolk, with only the former farmhouse and a couple of converted residential barns on the other side of the road, Earls Hall enjoys rural tranquility and dark skies at night. Lavenham, Sudbury, Bury St Edmunds, and Long Melford are all within easy reach by the hourly bus.
There is a post office in the village, offering fresh bread, fruit and veg and saucy greetings cards, or a good range of shops in Lavenham, including an excellent baker, a good country grocer with a cheese counter, a butcher and a late opening Co-op. The Three Horseshoes with pub food is a seven minute walk away.
Trains to Bury and Sudbury are linked by an hourly bus service stopping within 7 minutes walk of the house. We are 15 minutes drive from Bury St Edmunds, 20 minutes from Sudbury and 40 minutes from Stansted Airport. It's 1.5 hours drive to London.
