Only available together and a perfect self catering holiday home for families and groups of friends, hiking, cycling and adventure holidays. We do not accept bookings for hens, stags, weddings, retreats or commercial events.

With the River Esk and Whillan Beck running along its boundaries and a total of 10 acres to explore, Eskdale Retreat is the sort of place you may never want to leave. Tucked away in the quieter Western Lakes, outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the rugged landscape and opportunities for walking/hiking, cycling (bike store and wash provided), wild swimming, fishing and a host of adventure activities.

In a previous life the Retreat was a vicarage, now carefully renovated to combine Lake District style with contemporary Scandi finishes for a luxury stay. The modern benefits of 2 hot tubs and cinema room enhance the experience.

Gather the whole group for dinner in the main house, where bi-fold doors look towards a pretty meadow and the River Esk. This open plan lounge kitchen diner has a double sided wood burner making it extra cosy place. The sitting room area has comfortable sofas and a large wall mounted Smart TV. The cinema room is fantastic for whole group viewing or an escape for the younger members of the group. The adjacent Coach House is self contained and perfect for grandparents or a young family.

Bedrooms are named after local landmarks and are beautifully appointed with splashes of colour. The decor in Green Crag is exquisite with wall coverings reflecting the Lakeland landscape surrounding the Retreat. All have en suite facilities, two with gorgeous roll top baths.

The air conditioned Zen Den in the garden can serve as a games room (with table tennis) or can be used for yoga (up to 12 mats) or pilates. Let us know if you would like us to put you in touch with instructors.

Relax and chill out at Eskdale Retreat or make the most of the area for outdoor adventures - cold water swimming, walks from the door, the 8.5 mile Eskdale Trail for cyclists or climb Scafell Pike. A local outdoor specialist can arrange bespoke activities including kayaking and ghyll scrambling on request.
