Comfortable, well equipped bunkhouse sleeping 23 for youth group outdoor challenges on the edge of the Lake District

Holiday Rental for Groups of Families and Friends. Felldyke Bunkhouse, Cockermouth, Cumbria, sleeps 4 - 23 in 3 bedrooms.

Felldyke Bunkhouse is a well appointed and comfortable base for youth groups exploring the lake District and taking part in outdoor activities and other challenges.
The classroom/dining room is a large flexible area equipped with a whiteboard and maps of the local area. Can be set up as required or cleared completely to leave an open space 5 x 7m in size.
Immediately adjacent to the building is a 25 x 10m grassed area, bordered by mature trees for use by Bunkhouse guests. Ideal for kicking a ball about or using as an outside classroom area. No animals are grazed on this grass.
23 bed spaces in three bunk rooms. The upstairs accommodation is in 2 separate bunk rooms, each containing 10 beds, and with privacy dividers which prevent sight lines through the room. Downstairs there is a separate Leaders room for 3 people, with an adjacent wheelchair compatible bathroom.
All bed spaces have a side light for reading; all bunks and mattresses comply with fire regulations for commercial properties. Currently pillows/pillow cases are provided, however all other bedding must be supplied by the guests.
The group lounge has large comfortable sofas and is equipped with a TV/DVD player, board games and a wood burner effect gas fire (with guards and carbon monoxide monitor).
Felldyke has the right level of equipment to allow a large number of people to be catered for easily; this includes: an 8 ring range cooker with 2 fan ovens; 2 x 12 place setting dishwashers; a larder fridge and a second under the counter fridge; an under the counter freezer; plenty of food storage, chopping boards, large pans and sharp knives. Cutlery, crockery and glasses to cater for a full house.
Centrally heated, double glazed and beautifully cosy, Felldyke has a modern gas boiler and a enormous hot water tank. Felldyke also has a drying cupboard/room immediately adjacent to the front door, equipped with a dehumidifier and direct heating.

Disabled Facilities

Parking and access ramps plus a separate Disabled accessible room for 2-3 people, with an adjacent wheelchair compatible bathroom.

Dog Friendly

Pets are welcome, however the owners reserve the right to charge a £20 surcharge per animal to cover any additional cleaning. No pets upstairs please.

Kitchen

Designed to cater for groups, includes: a range cooker; dishwashers; plenty of shelves and fridges for food storage, large pans and sharp knives.

Dining Room

Tables and chairs for dining are provided, to be arranged as required in the open plan dining area. Loads of crockery, glasses and mugs available.

Sitting Room

Purpose built extension containing a comfortable lounge, adjacent to the kitchen. Solid fuel effect gas fire and comfortable sofas make it very cosy.

TV and Music Facilities

Felldyke has a TV and DVD player in the lounge. An MP3 / Ipod dock can be found in the kitchen / dining area.

Games Room

A lounge separate to the communal areas is available.

Heating and Open Fires

Gas fired central heating, modern levels of insulation and double glazed windows make for a very cosy bunkhouse. A fire pit can be found outside.

Bedrooms

Bunk room 1 - sleeps 3 downstairs and is disabled accessible. Bunk rooms 2 & 3 - each sleeps 10, both located upstairs.

Linen

A pillow and pillow case is included in the price. A quilt, quilt cover & bottom sheet can be requested as an extra at a cost of £5 per set.

Bathrooms

4 separate single occupancy shower rooms are upstairs with a further disabled access shower room downstairs. The feel is hotel rather hostel.

Children's Facilities

A safe environment for children and young adults, with all equipment and beds built to current standards. Adjacent paddock for outside play.

Outdoor

Large picnic benches are outside, with a fire pit and space for barbecues. The nearest neighbour is 100m. The Lake District fells are within 250m.

Swimming Pool

Crummock, Loweswater and Ennerdale lakes are within 10 - 15 minutes of the Bunkhouse. Indoor pools can be found in Cockermouth and Keswick.

Parking

A hardstanding parking area is provided, directly adjacent to the Bunkhouse. With careful parking it can accommodate 8+ cars.

Smoking

No smoking in the building. If smoking outside, please collect and dispose of your cigarette butts in the bin.

Booking Information

We only book the whole Bunkhouse out to a single group.
Arrival Check-in is 17:00 or later, Departure Check-out is 12:00 or earlier.
Bedding can be provided as an extra at £5 per set (quilt, quilt cover and bottom sheet).

Location

An idyllic location set within its own paddock against the stunning backdrop of the Western Lake District Fells, with direct access to Cogra Moss and Blake Fell. The nearest neighbour is 100m away.

  • There are no bus services nearby.
  • Nearest mainline station is Penrith, with the nearest branchline stations in Workington and Whitehaven circa 10 miles away.
  • The picturesque town of Cockermouth is 6 miles away, where supermarkets, local butchers and bakers can be found. Keswick is a further 10 miles.
  • A 10 minute walk from the bunkhouse is the farm shop on the local caravan site that will sell basics such as milk, bread and wine.
  • A number of pubs are within a short drive, the most notable being the excellent Kirkstile Inn, with its national award winning Loweswater Gold Ale and the community run Fox and Hounds in Ennerdale.
  • Felldyke is central (2.5 hrs from all of them) to Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.
