Castle Head is the perfect location to explore the stunning Lake District. Divided into 2 main areas of accommodation: the impressive Georgian Wilkinson house can sleep up to 49 people in a mix of room types and also the Hillfoot accommodation wing can sleep up to 110. There is an option to add up to 10 additional camp beds to some of the rooms to maximise occupancy. There are a total of 9 en-suite bedrooms whilst others have shower and toilet facilities nearby. There is 1 twin bedroom with wheelchair accessible bathroom and shower. Although some areas of the centre are accessible for wheelchair users, general accessibility is quite limited. During off-peak season there is also the option of hiring Hillfoot Wing only (including kitchen, dining and some communal areas).
There is a games room which contains a range of board games, TV, Table Tennis and Table Football and also a large sports hall for team games or large gatherings for up to 120 people. There are 5 class/workrooms seating 24-30 and 2 large common rooms - the Hillfoot Common room seats around 60 people and The Chapel comfortably seats around 110 people theatre style. There is also a further lounge (Wilkinson house) which seats around 40 people with cosy open fire. There is also a small library, often used as a small meeting room for up to 8 people.
Self-catering is offered to groups that hire out the whole centre. The dining room can seat up to 96 in one sitting. The Centre has a licensed bar and shop, although these are not available to self-catering groups unless special arrangements are made prior to the visit. Parking is available for around30 cars, additional soft field parking can be opened (in dry weather) for big events.
There is a large front lawn, amphitheatre sloped back lawn, 2 campfire areas, terraced garden and walk along the river. Groups hiring the centre exclusively can camp in the gardens
immediately surrounding the Centre buildings at no extra charge. Charges apply for use of public camping area.
Just 10 miles from the southern tip of Lake Windermere, you will have immediate access to all that the Lake District has to offer.
