Gorton is located on the edge of Roslin Glen, a nature reserve on the banks of the River N.Esk. With Edinburgh's centre only 20 minutes drive away the city provides all the attractions expected from Scotland's capital. Yet within 5 miles of Gorton you will find the sporting facilities of 8 golf courses, river and loch fishing, pony trekking, a dry-ski slope and 3 leisure centres with swimming pools.

Glentress, the world famous mountain-biking centre is located at Peebles, only 20 minutes drive to the south. The Penicuik to Dalkeith walk/cycle track passes the gate and the Pentland Hills Regional Park provides the backdrop and is readily accessible. For the sightseers, the historic Rosslyn Chapel (featured in the da Vinci Code) is only a short distance from the grounds and there are many other historic sites and buildings within the vicinity. The adjacent village of Rosewell has a corner shop, and the nearby communities of Bonnyrigg and Penicuik have pubs, restaurants, and shops.

Renovation of the premises in its 19th Century Victorian form (Gorton dates from c.1670), and the re-building of the Stables created the holiday accommodation at Gorton House. Three Orchard Cottages have been added within the walled garden. This gives a total of seven units for 4-7 persons and parties of up to 33 can be accommodated.

All houses and cottages have their own private gardens with parking, and younger family members can entertain themselves for hours on the free tennis court and mini-golf facilities. Bed linen and electricity are included and towels are provided at no extra charge.
