Great Higham Farm is a development of a range of traditional buildings providing accommodation for up to 32 people (plus sofabeds and futons) in a farm yard setting on the north face of the North Downs in Kent, with rolling downland to the south and orchards, and the Thames Estuary to the north. The farm is in the heart of the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has access to some very good walking routes in the area.
Great Higham forms part of a traditionally managed family owned estate and is surrounded by orchards, arable ground and traditional Kentish chestnut coppice woods full of bluebells in spring. Within the farmyard is a heated outdoor swimming pool which is in use from April to October and a tennis court.
The entire complex is heated by a state of the art biomass boiler, which uses woodchip from wood from the surrounding land. This carbon neutral installation won the South East of England Renewable Energy Award in 2006.
Great Higham Barn is a listed 17th century Kent aisled Thatched Barn that has been sensitively converted into spectacular accommodation for up to 26. The hall is dominated by a huge specially made table, which will seat up to 30 for parties or special occasions. The huge upstairs living space, framed by the original oak structure of the Barn, is cleverly divided into three separate areas for sitting and relaxing. There are 5 double/twin bedrooms in the main body of the Barn, three with en-suite bathrooms and a further bedroom with en-suite bathroom and a large room with six beds and a bathroom in an annex connected to the Barn. There are two double sofa beds if further accommodation is needed. The kitchen area is open, airy and spacious, with far reaching views across open countryside to the wooded hills beyond and onto a south facing terrace.
