It's not difficult to be impressed by the restoration story behind Greystonedale - remaining derelict for 30 years but since brought back to life, this lovely old house made an appearance on Channel 4's Renovation Nation. This miniature stately home and annexe near the Sycamore Gap is a great choice for extended families, friends and walkers. With Haltwhistle in the centre of the UK, it's easy for loved ones to come together from different parts of the country, with good transport links. And it's only 15 minutes from Hadrians Wall.
Greystonedale Mansion is a quirky property, filled with antiques and upcycled objects to create a comfortable living space, with many traditional features preserved including ornate high ceilings and original fireplaces. The house has a feel of grandeur combined with contemporary facilities for a great stay. A fully equipped kitchen for meal preparation and a drawing room with cosy Chesterfields in front of an open fire provide plenty of social space for a group, with the wood paneled snug a cosy alternative. The decor in the Mustard, Gothic and Oriental bedrooms is dramatic, designed using eccentric artwork and strong colour effects. The bathrooms share the bold design features.
The House (or annexe) is a more modern space, again with plenty of living space, and a handy extra for part of an extended family group. The dining room here has plenty of seating and views over the garden, while the lounge has a real fire. Bedrooms 4 and 5 plus bathrooms are in the annexe.
Dogs are welcome at Greystonedale and there is lawn space for them to run around with the children
Haltwhistle is a gem of a town, with independent shops, cafes, bars and an outdoor pool (if you're brave enough). World Unesco Heritage Sites can be found just a short distance away including Hadrian's Wall and the Roman Army Museum. Alnwick Castle, one of the Harry Potter filming locations, is worth a visit too.
