And 2 dogs are welcome too, so the whole family can enjoy the experience. Originally dating from the late 1800's, High Dougarie Farmhouse on the Dougarie Estate has been extended over the years and recently restored to create a traditional yet spacious home. With a long history and a modern approach to diversification, the estate provides many opportunities to enjoy the best of Arran. Walk across the estate, fish in the river or loch between June and October, or take to the sea for lobster potting and sea fishing, play a round of golf on the nearby course, or try your hand at traditional sports including axe throwing. Or simply relax and embrace the vastness of this special environment. And at the end of the day, gather together for long dinners against the backdrop of the water, inside or out, and settle into the comfortable living room for long evenings catching up with friends and family. And at the end of the evening head to 5 comfortable bedrooms, many with outstanding views, A stay on Arran would not be complete, either, without visiting some of its other attractions. Taste whisky at the local distillery, spoil yourself with aromatic products from ARRAN Sense of Scotland. Take to a kayak or bike to explore the island and its waters, or seek out the wonderful range of wildlife and birds for whom Arran is home. Travelling by car, train or bus, and only around 30 miles from Glasgow, Arran is now accessible from 3 different ports.  There are numerous daily sailings (with Calmac) from Ardrossan (55 mins), Troon (75 mins) or Clonaig (25 mins). Both Ardrossan and Troon are bookable routes, and booking is advised for cars and for foot passengers. Clonaig is not bookable, it is a turn up and go service. Dougarie is a 20 min drive from the main port of Brodick, through amazing scenery and valleys. The farmhouse itself is a very short drive up a high track from the coast road, allowing stunning coastal views from the house and garden. The beaches, stony and sandy, are all within walking distance of the property.  The house is also adjacent to a path that winds inland through the Estate for 2 miles to reach Loch Iorsa, nestled behind the 3 Beinns hills. Cafe Thyme is just a 2 minute drive away, a coffee/lunch cafe that also has adjacent shops and a fantastic children’s outdoor playing area.
