King John's House is located on the Rushmore Estate, part of the Cranborne Chase, an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty and traditionally a Royal hunting ground. A special venue for a celebration, be it a milestone birthday, wedding anniversary or large family reunion.
The medieval entrance hall, originally built in 1240, features a huge fireplace, flagstone floor and stone mullioned windows and dining table for 18. The oak panelled snug sitting room, added during the Tudor era, has an original fireplace together with a door leading out to the terrace.
The kitchen is large and well-equipped with breakfast table and leads to a utility area and walk in larder. The study, now a 10th bedroom, has comfy soft seating with flat screen, wall-mounted TV and DVD, and a super king or twin beds. The inner hall leads to a shower room/wc and connecting door to the Butler's House, with 2 more double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a sitting room.
A sweeping oak staircase leads to the elegant first floor drawing room, overlooking the garden and with a large open fireplace. At the far end are 2 double bedrooms, both with half-tester canopies and en suite shower room/WC. On this floor is a further twin with Tudor panelling and decorative brick fireplace, with separate bathroom. Also the Master king-size bedroom, dressing area and luxurious, contemporary shower room/WC. On the landing, a handy cupboard contains a small ‘bar’ with sink. A further staircase leads to the 2nd floor with a single bedroom, further large double attic room and bathroom.
Outside, the house is surrounded by extensive private gardens and includes a further bedroom in the Japanese pavilion, offering a superking size bed, sauna, shower, WC. The pavilion terrace is the perfect romantic escape, surrounded by restful water gardens.
The grounds are a seamless blend of formal and natural landscaping, featuring a croquet lawn and long ascending canal with fountain, leading the eye to a distant folly.
Nearby are The Larmer Tree, a Victorian pleasure garden, and Rushmore Golf Club, both attractions part of the Rushmore Estate.
