Mid-century modern design has created the ideal open plan space for being together, with huge glass windows in all the rooms showing off the stunning garden. There are 2 kitchens for preparing meals with informal dining in the kitchen or in the formal dining room next to open fires. The Drawing Room, with antique furniture and old family portraits, has a grand piano and comfy sofas. The TV room is a great spot for everyone to watch a film or engage in some board game competitions. And there's table tennis and a snooker table, plus a tennis court outside.

4 of the 6 deluxe bedrooms are on the ground floor, a bonus for multi generational groups or those less mobile. All have en suite or adjacent facilities and there's a mix of superkings, zip and links and twins to suit. Soft furnishings throughout are stylish and opulent, bathrooms plentiful.

There is always something beautiful to see outside too - spring daffodils, May blossom or summer lavender beds. The private grounds beyond offer woodland walks and games of croquet, with plenty of space for the youngsters to use up excess energy.

The seaside town of North Berwick is 5 minutes away with famous sandy beaches close by including Seacliffe and Yellowcraig. The area, rich in marine life, is great for walking, cycling and birdwatching, with a trip to Bass Rock to see the 150,000 gannets, or a visit the nearby Craigleith Island renowned for seals and puffins, a must. Other East Lothian highlights are within 15 minutes such as the pretty village of Stenton and market town of Haddington as well as 12 golf courses. Further afield, but within an hour, Edinburgh is a great day out - explore the Castle, Arthur's Seat and The National Museum.

- Dogs are welcome but please keep on a lead and should be kept in the service kitchen. Gardener works every morning in the walled garden. There is a security deposit of £800.
