Low Mill Outdoor Centre is a converted 19th century water mill situated in Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The centre is well placed in one of the most beautiful areas in the North of England and provides a great base for outdoor and environmental education, activity adventure holidays and team building activities.

The Centre has bunk accommodation for 40 in dormitory rooms each with en suite facilities. The large function room has an open fire and an additional smaller “break out” or quiet room is adjacent, along with the dining room.

School and youth groups usually opt for a fully catered stay for a three day / two night week or weekend stay with multi activity outdoor sessions included in the package. Activities available include caving, canoeing, climbing, abseiling, gorge walking. All activity programmes are discussed in advanced and tailored to suit your needs.

Facilities

Dog Friendly

Pets are not allowed other than assistance dogs by arrangement.

Accessibility

The centre has been adapted to accommodate disabled guests and there is a lift to the upstairs common rooms. All bedrooms are on the ground floor.

WiFi

We have free WiFi at the centre although reception is not that strong.

Kitchen

Fully equipped catering kitchen. There is also a front kitchen area with a fridge, toaster, microwave, dishwasher and water boiler for hot drinks.

Dining Room

Wooden tables and benches can be arranged in different configurations to best suit your groups needs. Serving hatch through to the front kitchen.

Sitting Room

Large beamed communal area with comfy seats and an open fire. There is also a private separate room with comfy seating and a selection of books.

TV and Music Facilities

A large TV and DVD.

Games Room

Upstairs there is a games area with a pool table, table tennis table and a chalk board to keep score.

Heating and Open Fires

We have an open fire in the lounge area. The centre is powered by biomass offering environmentally friendly heating.

Bedrooms

7 bedrooms, all with bunk beds and each with an en suite bathroom. Flexible sleeping options over 2 wings (rooms sleep 14, 8, 6, 4, 4, 2, 2).

Linen

Duvets, pillows and bed linen is provided. We do not provide towels or tea towels.

Bathrooms

All bathrooms have a toilet, washbasin and shower. Some dormitories have accessible wet rooms for groups with additional needs.

Children's Facilities

Our centre is child friendly, though we do not provide cots, high chairs.

Outdoor

Mill Gill runs through the grounds of the centre with a grassed area, with fire pit, to the rear. The community football field is next door.

Swimming Pool

We do not have a swimming pool although Semerwater is a short drive away for those of you interested in wild swimming!

Off road on-site parking.

Smoking

There is no smoking in the centre. We have a smoking shelter outside for your use.

Location

On the outskirts of Askrigg village, which was used for filming the series All Creatures Great & Small. Askrigg is in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park with three pubs, a cafe and shop.

  • Hawes 5 miles, Leyburn 12 miles.
  • A small village shop a five minute walk away. There is a Spar shop in Hawes 5 miles away and a Tesco in Catterick Garrison 17 miles away.
  • Three real ale pubs and a cafe in the village a five minute walk away.
  • Durham Tees Valley 30 miles, Leeds/Bradford 64 miles, Newcastle 74 miles.
  • There is a bus stop in the village a five minute walk away.
