Minstead Study Centre, an outdoor centre and holiday bunkhouse near Lyndhurst in the New Forest, is a superb location for a huge range of groups, events and courses, providing a very flexible service throughout the year. We are most regularly used as a venue for primary school residential visits, but have in recent years been successfully used for a number of other groups, including extended families, groups of friends, yoga retreats, craft groups, spiritual and religious groups, who make the most of our New Forest locality and our 7 acres of beautiful, characterful and tranquil grounds.

Please note that due to the rural nature of the site, and the proximity of our neighbours, we are not a suitable venue for potentially noisy parties!

Our beautiful, timber-built bunkhouse accommodation block was built in 2005. It has underfloor heating and a huge log burning stove providing a cosy and warm space all year round. The building has 2 large dorms, each sleeping 18 in bunk beds, each with adjoining showers and toilets. In addition there are 2 ensuite twin rooms. The building has residential capacity for 40 people in total. It also contains boot rooms and a large central social space, with comfy seating, Wi-Fi, TV/DVD and small kitchenette.

Alongside the accommodation block is the original Victorian school building, containing the dining room, professionally equipped kitchen and large classroom - suitable for use as overspill dining, or as a presentation or performance area.

The Centre has 7 acres of gorgeous, tranquil, wildlife-rich grounds containing woodlands, meadows, ponds, sheep field (with friendly sheep), roundhouse and large vegetable garden.

Minstead is a small New Forest village, with a lovely pub, beautiful medieval church and a small village store.

The Centre is in the heart of the extraordinary landscape of the New Forest National Park, with thousands of acres of open access woodland and heath, with the famous New Forest ponies and a rich tapestry of wildlife habitats. It is a wonderful and popular area for walking, cycling and wildlife watching, and the Centre can be a brilliant base for your exploration.

Accessibility

The accommodation is accessible via ramp, and one of the showers allows wheelchair access. Please note, the site is sloped and muddy in places.

WiFi

WiFi covers both buildings and mobile signal is very good on all networks.

Kitchen

Professionally equipped commercial kitchen with large oven, hot cupboard, 6 gas hobs, dishwasher, large fridge and freezer.

Dining Room

The small dining room provides enough space for up to 40 visitors. The adjoining classroom is far larger and can seat 40 in more comfort if necessary.

Sitting Room

The accommodation block has a central social space, with gorgeous log burner, with seating on chairs and beanbags for around 25 people.

TV and Music Facilities

The social room has a 42inch TV with Amazon firestick, and DVD player.

Games Room

No games room though there is loads of space outdoors for outdoor play.

Heating and Open Fires

The accommodation block is underfloor heated and remains warm throughout the year. In addition the central social space has a large log burner.

Bedrooms

2 large bunk bedded dormitories, sleeping 18 each, with adjoining shower and toilet factifies. 2 en-suite twin rooms.

Linen

Provided, including duvets and pillows (but not towels).

Bathrooms

Dorms have adjoining washrooms, each with 3 separate showers, sinks, toilets. Twin rooms have en-suite toilet and shower. Additional loos elsewhere.

Children's Facilities

7 acres of fabulous garden to explore, let off steam, clamber, hide, play, invent and make dens! And 3 very friendly sheep.

Outdoor

The 7 acre site contains woods, meadows, sheep field (with sheep!), roundhouse, ponds and vegetable garden. BBQ and campfire facilities available.

Swimming Pool

None on site. Excellent swimming pool nearby in Romsey.

Parking

On site (in playground) space for up to 8 cars + more space outside gate. Field available for larger numbers of cars if needed. EV charging available.

Smoking

Outside gates only please.

Booking Information

The Centre is generally available for hire at weekends and during the school holidays. Prices from £480 per night..minimum 2 night stay. Please note, that due to the tranquil nature of the site, we are not a suitable venue for potentially loud parties!

There are 2 x twin additional rooms in our Victorian Building, these can be hired at an additional cost alongside the dormitories. They have a shared bathroom but no shower.

Location

Very easily accessible, being only 10 minutes from the A31 and M27. Located on a very quiet lane on the edge of the village of Minstead in the heart of the New Forest.

Lyndhurst (small town - approx 3 miles), Southampton (city - approx 14 miles).
Minstead community stores - 200 metre walk.Nearest large supermarket is Morrisons in Totton - 8 miles.
The Trusty Servant is around 200 metres walk, up a small footpath. This is a large New Forest pub, and offers excellent food and a great atmosphere.
Southampton - 14 miles.
Brockenhurst (mainline station) - 8 miles. Very frequent trains to London Waterloo.
300 metres to village Centre - though buses to Minstead are few and far between!
