Tucked away in a quiet corner of Herefordshire are Monnington House, Garden Cottage and The Cider Mill providing  a peaceful and private escape. The 12 large tastefully decorated bedrooms and 12 bathrooms are spread out over three properties. A fabulous working kitchen, geared up for numbers and catering, and a dining area which can accommodate up to 24 plus an alfresco dining area are all located in the main house. Catering can be made available. We carry forward to philosophy:  the feeling of staying in a family home surrounded by understated elegance and beauty. The properties enjoy peaceful private gardens and grounds of 2 acres.

All properties are supplied with high quality Hypnos superking beds (zip and link) and luxurious 400 thread count Egyptian linen. These simple luxuries allow you to rest and restore.  There is a ground floor bedroom in Garden Cottage, the Cider Mill is all on one level. The properties are full of books, plants, textiles and objects handpicked by the owner.

The hamlet of Monnington on Wye offers undisturbed tranquility and beauty and yet is connected to many local activities, pubs and cafes and places to visit within 20 minutes. There is a superb farm  shop at the top of the lane. A short walk through the enchanting cider orchards is the River Wye.

On site there is plenty to do. Enjoy the large 2 acres of gardens and grounds which are private and peaceful. Play football on the huge playing fields. For rainy days and winter nights enjoy the rustic table tennis room and games room with pool table and table football which are located in the outbuildings. There is wonderful walking straight from the door to suit all ages and abilities.

During the summer the River Wye comes into its own. Fishing, canoeing and kayaking are available nearby. There are 5 golf courses within reach and lovely market towns of Hay on Wye, Presteigne, Leominster and Hereford.

Accessibility

Kelmscott bedroom (Garden Cottage) is on the ground floor and has M1 status. All bedrooms are en suite at The Cider Mill and are on the ground floor.

WiFi

Mobile reception is available. Superfast broadband is provided making working from home possible.

Kitchen

4 door AGA, 2 elec ovens and hob, American FF with ice maker, 2 dishwashers, 2 FF in farmhouse. Electric oven and hob, DW, FF in The Cider Mill.

Dining Room

Dining for 18 and up to 24 by request in farmhouse and outdoor dining for 24. Dining for 6 in The Cider Mill.

Sitting Room

3 comfortable sitting rooms with wood burners (some faux), large TVs in the farmhouse. Books and board games. Sitting room in GC and TCM

TV and Music Facilities

TVs are in all bedrooms in Monnington House and Garden Cottage. TV in the sitting room only in Cider Mill.

Games Room

Games room is located in stable block and has a pool table and table football. A rustic table tennis room is in the outbuildings.

Heating and Open Fires

Mixture of underfloor heating and central heating. Wood burners in the 3 reception rooms in the house. Faux wood burner in The Cider Mill & Gdn Ctg.

Bedrooms

Each bedroom has its own bathroom/shower rm. All beds are superking zip/link Hypnos beds. Bed configurations can be altered by prior arrangement.

Linen

Fabulous white 400 thread count Egyptian cotton. Duvets and pillows are hypoallergenic. Fluffy white bath and hand towels are provided. Beds made up.

Bathrooms

MH and GC have 7 en suite bathrooms, one bathroom adjacent to one b'room and one shower room adjacent to another b'room. TCM has 3 en suite bathrooms.

Children's Facilities

2 cots 2 high chairs. Games room with pool table & table football (under 12s to be supervised). Table tennis room. Playing field with football goal

Outdoor

2 acre garden with large south facing terrace. Bbq in summer. Large outdoor eating area for up to 24. Playing field with football goals.

Swimming Pool

We do not have a swimming pool. The nearest is 8 miles in Hereford. Wild swimming in the Wye is nearby. We do recommend you seek professional advice.

Parking

Private parking for 10 cars at Monnington House and Garden Cottage. Private parking for 5 cars at Cider Mill including 1 covered parking.

Smoking

No smoking is permitted anywhere on the property.

Booking Information

Rates exclude Hay Festival prices and Christmas and New Year prices.
If booking a 2 night weekend, check out time is 5.00 pm (as opposed to 9.45 am).
Usual changeover days are Fridays and Mondays.  Please ask if you would like to arrive on another day.

Location

Monnington on Wye is a small hamlet in the beautiful Wye Valley close to the border of Wales. It is in between the Cathedral City Hereford and the delightful town of Hay on Wye. Surrounded by farmland and apple cider orchards. It is peaceful and tranquil and yet pubs, shops and activities are not far away. There are great walking trails from the door.

 

  • Hay on Wye is 12 miles and full of book and independent shops. . Hereford City is 8 miles and hosts the Mappa Mundi.
  • Waitrose, Sainsbury, Tesco, Lidl and Asda are in Hereford.  In Leominster there is Morrisons and Aldi. Oakchurch Farmshop at the top of the lane only 1.8 miles from the house.
  • There is a large choice all within 20 minutes. Check their opening times during the week. The Red Lion at Bredwardine, Brobury House and Garden Cafe, Timothy and Birth, The Yew Tree Inn at Preston on Wye, The Cider Barn at Leominster, The Kilpeck Inn, The Three Tuns in Hay on Wye.
  • Bristol (approx 48 miles), Birmingham (approx 52 miles), Cardiff (approx 56 miles), London (approx 135 miles), Manchester (approximately 138).
  • Hereford Station is 8 miles, with direct trains to Birmingham and London. Leominster station is 12 miles and has direct trains to Manchester.
  • Bus stop on A438 about one mile walk from the house. Rural service.
