Owned by the Markham family since 1828, the house is steeped in history. As soon as you enter the oak-panelled front hall you will be swept back into a former age. The large south-facing double-ended drawing room has a grand piano for the musically minded and seats 18. The dining room can seat the same number at two tables. With the log fires blazing and the family portraits looking down in the candelight, you have a splendid setting for a special and memorable family occasion. A special caterers kitchen allows the cooks to make and serve formal meals without disturbing the family kitchen. Dog friendly (up to 3).
The gardens are a very special feature, with four acres of lawns, kitchen garden, rose garden and herbaceous borders. Steps lead down to the stream and a children's wonderland with beckside walks, waterfalls and secret Victorian quarry garden complete with grotto. After a game of croquet, children of all ages will love 'through the green beize door' with the fully equipped modernised family kitchen seating 12 and a games room equipped with seven foot pool table, large TV and board games. There is a snug, a small office and separate utility room. Excellent WiFi throughout the house plus smart central heating. Comfy new beds and 6 bathrooms.
Morland House is in the attractive rural village of Morland in Cumbria's rolling Eden Valley on the edge of both the Lakes and Dales National Parks with all its walking, climbing and adventure opportunities. The nearest lake, Ullswater, is 10 miles (20 minutes) away. There are signposted country walks from the door, and the house is on National Cycle Route 71. Fishing, by permit, on the nearby River Eden.
Morland House is a member of the Historic Houses Association and the gardens are open to members and the public from 10am-5pm. However, they are never crowded. Plant Stall. Guests also have their own south-facing private garden with summerhouse, chairs and tables and BBQ.
