Mount Cook is dedicated to providing access to the outdoors and outdoor activities and learning for all. We believe you are never too old to try something new! Whether that be kayaking on Carsington Reservoir, rock-climbing on Black Rocks, or learning how to build a campfire and tie a safe knot in our bush craft sessions.

Our environmentally friendly purpose-built catered Centre can sleep up to 133, and a further 40 guests on our on-site camping paddock. We welcome groups big and small to our Centre, with exclusive use or shared occupation! Unique features of our Centre include an indoor climbing wall, an on-site high ropes course, a 10m high rooftop terrace providing 360 degree views of the surrounding area, and 5 acres of land to explore.

Here at Mount Cook, we can transform any event into a truly unique and memorable experience. Our modern Centre offers an alternative venue for birthday parties of all ages, celebrations, hen and stag dos, and even weddings! Inside the Centre, our light and airy glass-fronted dining area provides a spacious and dramatic venue seating over 100 guests. Our experienced team of caterers will serve up delicious food according to your requirements. Our purpose-built Centre also offers numerous indoor spaces, perfect for conferences and corporate meetings.

Mount Cook is in close proximity to some of Derbyshire's and the Peak District's best facilities, including World Heritage Site Cromford Mills, the historic Victorian spa town Matlock Bath, and the breathtaking Chatsworth House and Estate which has appeared in various films including Pride and Prejudice.

From our Centre, you can also trek into the wilderness on a hike, or rent a bike from Middleton Top Cycle Hire. We also offer a range of exciting activities to enjoy with friends and family, from orienteering, archery, bush craft, kayaking, canoeing, rock-climbing, abseiling and high-ropes - to name just a few.

Keep your eyes peeled for regular Mount Cook events throughout the year, including Holiday Clubs for kids, High-Ropes Family Fun Sessions, outdoor cinema screenings and Nature Photography Weekends. There's always something interesting going on at Mount Cook!

Facilities

Mount Cook is mostly a full catering Centre, serving hot nutritious meals and packed lunches everyday. Minimal self-catering facilities are available.
Our large glass-fronted dining hall can comfortably cater for 100 guests at one time, whilst offering stunning views into Ecclesbourne Valley.
Our large break-out room can comfortably seat 40 guests, with a projector and screen for film nights. Smaller break-out rooms are also available.
We have a projector and screen in our large break-out room, which can play DVDs for indoor cinema evenings. Dining hall also has a speaker system.
Free WiFi is available for all of our guests, and our reception phone is available for emergency use. Mobile reception is generally good in the area.
Our larger break-out room has an indoor cinema facility, along with numerous board games, giant dominoes and giant jenga.
There is underfloor heating throughout the entire Centre, which makes Mount Cook nice and cosy! There is also a radiator in every bedroom.
Each standard bedroom can sleep up to 4 guests, in bunk-bed style accommodation with en suite bathrooms facilities. Our disabled rooms sleep just two.
Complimentary linen is provided at no extra cost. We do ask you to bring your own towel.
All of our standard and disabled bedrooms have en suite bathroom facilities. Campers have an indoor toilet and shower block available for their use.
We have two disabled bedrooms available on the ground floor of our Centre. Many of our outdoor activities are also available to disabled guests.
We do not offer high chairs or cots, as the majority of our guests are over 4 years of age, so we recommend to bring your own.
An outdoor campfire pit, activity field and on-site quarry are available for use. Campers are also very welcome to cook food on camping stoves.
There is no swimming pool.
We have two disabled car parking spaces available on site, plus coach parking and numerous standard car-parking spaces.
Mount Cook is a non-smoking Centre. However, there are designated smoking areas available on site.
Pets are allowed subject to existing bookings. Please ask for more details!

Location

We are based in the south end of the Peak District National Park with easy transport links, about 20 minutes away from the M1, and just 10 minutes from Cromford Train Station.
Wirksworth is less than 5 minutes drive from our Centre, with a Co-operative supermarket, numerous quirky shops and cafes, restaurants and pubs.
The nearest supermarket is the Co-operative, just 5 minutes drive from our Centre.
The Rising Sun is within walking distance of our Centre, serving traditional pub-grub, sandwiches and good pints!

Booking Information

All bookings can be held for two weeks, we will then require a 10% confirmation deposit to hold your booking. Six months prior to arrival we will request another 20%, with the final 70% requested four weeks prior to arrival. Deposits are non-refundable.

We have a bus stop directly outside our Centre, which can transport you to Wirksworth, Matlock Bath, Cromford, Chatsworth House and other features of interest in the area.
