Looking for a unique location? Mount Cook is the perfect, central base for large gatherings - providing a relaxed yet modern space in which to host events, celebrations and group gatherings including sports tours, faith group trips and weddings.

Mount Cook is a not-for-profit organisation offering a range of exciting outdoor activities and modern en-suite accommodation, in the heart of the stunning Derbyshire countryside. Our centre can sleep up to 140 guests in 4 person, en-suite bedrooms. A further 40 guests can be accommodated in our cool Glamping Pods, which also sleep 4 guests in each.

Elevated on a hill, Mount Cook has the benefit of looking out over the surrounding valleys which provides a stunning backdrop for your adventures.

We have glass-fronted dining that can seat up to 120 at any one time. We also have two smaller halls with meeting room facilities, as well as a new 40 person outdoor tipi that is the perfect space for a celebration.

A variety of flexible catering options are available and a licensed bar is also available in our impressive glass-fronted main dining hall.

We specialise in outdoor activities and you may include some as part of your stay with us if you wish.

Activities include rock climbing, zip wire, archery, abseiling, bushcraft and much more.

A minimum group size of 8 people is required.

Activities can be booked for a half-day or a full-day session. Evening activities are also available, and include a campfire, rocket building and night walks.

Facilities

Disabled Facilities

We have two disabled bedrooms available on the ground floor of our centre, level access to all ground floor facilities, and separate disabled toilet.

WiFi

Free WiFi is available for all of our guests, and our reception phone is available for emergency use. Mobile reception is generally good in the area.

Kitchen

Mount Cook is a fully catered centre, serving hot tasty meals every day. Self catering is available for Exclusive Use bookings.

Dining Room

Our large glass-fronted dining hall can accommodate up to 120 guests at one time with a variety of available seating arrangements.

Sitting Room

Our large break-out room can comfortably seat 40 guests, with a projector and screen for film nights. Smaller break-out rooms are also available.

TV and Music Facilities

We have a projector and screen in our large break-out room, which can play DVDs for indoor cinema evenings. Dining hall also has a speaker system.

Heating and Open Fires

There is underfloor heating throughout the entire centre, which makes Mount Cook nice and cosy! There is also a radiator in every bedroom.

Bedrooms

Each standard bedroom can sleep up to 4 guests, in bunk-bed style accommodation with en suite bathroom facilities. Our disabled rooms sleep just two.

Linen

Complimentary linen is provided at no extra cost. We do ask you to bring your own towel.

Bathrooms

All of our standard and disabled bedrooms have en suite bathroom facilities. Our pods have a toilet and basin with showers in the main building.

Children's Facilities

We have four high-chairs and two cots available. The majority of our on-site activities are suitable for children aged 8+.

Outdoor

An outdoor campfire pit and activity field are available for use.

Swimming Pool

There is no swimming pool, but you can take a dip in the local reservoir with kayaking, canoeing and raft-building!

Parking

We have disabled car parking spaces available on site, plus coach parking and 50 standard car-parking spaces.

Smoking

Mount Cook is a non-smoking centre. However, there are designated smoking areas available on site.

Booking Information

All bookings can be held for two weeks, we will then require a 10% confirmation deposit to hold your booking. Six months prior to arrival we will request another 20%, with the final 70% requested four weeks prior to arrival. Deposits are non-refundable.

Location

We are based in the south end of the Peak District National Park with easy transport links, about 20 minutes away from the M1 and just 10 minutes from Cromford Train Station.

  • Wirksworth is less than 5 minutes drive from our centre, with a Co-operative supermarket, numerous quirky shops and cafes, restaurants and pubs.
  • The nearest supermarket is the Co-operative, just 5 minutes drive from our centre.
  • The Rising Sun is within walking distance of our centre, serving traditional pub-grub, sandwiches and good pints!
  • East Midlands Airport, an hours drive from our centre.
  • Cromford Station is less than 10 minutes drive from our centre, providing easy links to Derby Station.
  • We have a bus stop directly outside our centre, which can transport you to Wirksworth, Matlock Bath, Cromford, Chatsworth House and other features of interest in the area.
