The Nightingale Centre, Buxton, Derbyshire, sleeps 15-78 in 30 bedrooms.
The Nightingale Centre provides four star, year-round, cosy, catered and licensed accommodation - refurbished recently for up to 78 guests (with smaller groups also catered for) with central heating throughout and an open fire in the comfortable lounge. There are two well-equipped conference/activity rooms (one max 80 dividable, one max 40) with other break-out areas available, children's play facilities, cycle lock-ups and football pitch There is ample room for a marquee in the grounds. Small groups may share. Large groups of 35 or more may arrange exclusive use of the main house. We look forward to discussing your group's particular requirements but please note we do not offer self-catering or outside catering options.
The centre is surrounded by peaceful countryside and close to prime tourist spots like Chatsworth, Buxton, Bakewell and Castleton with its interesting shops, Peverill castle and Blue John caves. At Great Hucklow itself there are llama rides and on the ridge above there is a gliding school.
Great Hucklow village is tiny, just a few houses yet it has its village school, old Unitarian chapel and local pub, with several other good hostelries within a five mile radius. It also has its own regular bus service.
The centre is suitable for lots of different types of groups and is regularly booked by schools, businesses, ramblers, retreats, families, religious and voluntary organisations, wedding parties, universities, colleges and training organisations. We offer secure cycle storage and cleaning facilities.
For ramblers there are walks from the door, hot showers after a day out, packed lunches if needed and good drying faciliities.
The centre is a charity, with strong connections to Unitarianism a movement which has no creed and believes people should be free to find their own spiritual understanding. It follows we want to be as inclusive as we can. For example we seek to do what we can to enable people with disabilities to get the best visiting experience at the centre. We encourage prospective visitors to discuss their particular needs in advance so we can provide an honest assessment of what we can offer and respond helpfully.
