Ocean Backpackers is an independently owned family run hostel in Ilfracombe, offering great value accommodation for solo, travellers, families and groups. The hostel is situated very close to the picturesque Ilfracombe Harbour (home to Damien Hirst's bronze statue Verity) and within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The hostel offers excellent facilities for families and friends, walkers, cyclists, surfers, activity groups and clubs, and schools who come to North Devon to relax in quality, comfortable, budget accommodation and enjoy the great outdoors.
The large well equipped kitchen has everything you need to cater for a large group. It contains a large dining table to seat 8 and the additional dining area can comfortably accommodate another 22.
Our communal lounge has comfy versatile built-in seating with build-in sockets and USB ports. We have tables for dining, using a laptop or playing board games and additional lounge chairs for reading. There's an array of books and games, free WiFi and a wall mounted TV, plus a table tennis table.
There's a cloakroom with a heated boot rail and hangers for wet suits under cover, and a large storage basement suitable for bikes, surf boards or kayaks.
The property has bedrooms spread over 3 floors, including a ground floor 5 bed dorm with en suite facilities. Bedroom sizes range from an 8-bed dorm down to a single room, many of them en suite.
Ilfracombe is full of curious coastal charm and there are many pubs, cafes, shops and top restaurants within walking distance plus the historic Tunnel Beaches. The South West Coast Path is close by and so is the start of the Devon Coast-to-Coast Cycle Route 27 and the Tarka Trail. It really is spectacular walking and cycling country!
Just a short drive away are the beautiful sandy surf beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde and also Exmoor National Park.
