Old Rectory Barn sleeping 10 is a beautifully renovated stone barn with oak beams which provides spacious and flexible accommodation for family and friends. It is ideal for families or large groups wanting to explore the area.

This comfortable holiday house is situated within the Brecon Beacons National Park yet also close to the hills, rivers, canals and castles of Monmouthshire. The Brecon and Monmouthshire canal is within walking distance. It is also convenient for visiting the Industrial Heritage sites of the South Wales Valleys.

Set in 5 acres there are plenty of local footpaths and we have produced a series of walks from the Barn. You could abandon the car and spend your days walking or cycling and absorbing the fascinating local history, but the whole of south eastern Wales is easily accessible from here, including Cardiff if you feel like a day out in the capital city of Wales.

The Barn is set over 2 floors, known as Loft and Stables. The entrance hall, with cloakroom off, leads to a beamed downstairs kitchen/living room which has French doors leading to the garden. There are 3 ground floor bedrooms (a double and 2 twins); 2 of them have doors leading out to their own patio and both have an en suite shower room. Also off the entrance hall is the other ground floor bedroom, a twin room which has an en suite wet room and is suitable for wheelchair use.

Upstairs is the large lofted family bedroom with an en suite with bath and shower over. There is a Juliet balcony looking over the garden.

Also upstairs, the second spacious lofted living/kitchen room has plenty of comfortable seating and a large extendable dining table.

The Barn has FreeSat TV and WiFi and DVD.

There is a separate utility room with a washing machine and dryer.

There are 2 seating areas in the garden and a BBQ. Plenty of off road parking.

Secure bicycle storage is available on request, as is an outdoor gear drying room.

Our prices are all inclusive of heating and electricity, linen and towels. We provide a welcome pack of local produce.

Electric vehicle charging point on site.

We accept dogs.

Facilities

In both kitchens - ceramic hob and integrated ovens, microwaves and toasters, dishwashers, stainless steel sinks and fridges with freezer.
A large extendable dining table in Loft that seats 8-10 plus another table for 4 in the downstairs kitchen (in Stables).
There are 2 sitting rooms each with comfortable seating. Loft has views to the Sugar Loaf. Stables has French windows to the garden.
Both sitting rooms have TV with Freesat. DVDs available.
Mobile reception is good for most providers. WiFi available.
There is no games room.
Central heating throughout.
There are 4 generous sized bedrooms which are all en suite. 2 twin bedrooms, a double and a larger family room with a double bed and 2 singles.
Good quality linen and towels are provided with no extra cost.
Each bedroom is en suite. 2 shower rooms, 1 wet room and a bath with shower over in the family room. Downstairs additional cloakroom.

Cots available plus high chairs and stair gate.
Small flat garden with lounge furniture on the patio. Barbecue. Additional patio with table and chairs. Herb garden. Footpaths cross the property.
There is no pool.
Off street private paved and gravel parking for up to 5 cars. Electric vehicle charging point.
No smoking inside the Barn please.
Well behaved dogs (max of 3) allowed. They cannot be left in the Barn alone, go on furniture or in bedrooms unless by prior arrangement.

Location

Situated above the village of Maesygwartha, 2 miles from Gilwern Village and the canal. In the SE corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park we are also close to castles and hills of Monmouthshire.
Abergavenny and Crickhowell are both 5 miles away.
Gilwern, 2 miles, has a butcher/deli, 2 small supermarkets and a pharmacy. The nearest large supermarkets are in Abergavenny and Brynmawr.
Towpath Inn and Beaufort Inn, both in Gilwern.

Booking Information

The Barn is available for long weekends, unless by prior arrangement. So depending on the length of stay the arrival and departure date are flexible. Please contact us by email or phone to discuss your requirements.
