Set on the banks of the River Usk in the heart of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, this beautifully restored Grade 1 listed house offers the perfect escape for group holidays. Built in the 1660s, the six-bedroom home sleeps up to 14 guests, blending historic charm with modern comforts—exposed beams, flagstone floors with underfloor heating, a bright and cosy lounge, and a spacious open-plan kitchen ideal for communal feats. The bedrooms are adorned with traditional Welsh blankets and characterful artwork from around the world.

Step outside to explore 40 acres of the Penpont Estate, with walled gardens, wild meadows, ancient woodlands, and the famous Greenman Maze. The family run estate is rooted in regeneration and custodianship, the estate nurtures biodiversity and restores wild spaces. The estate offers a chance to slow down and reconnect with nature. Spot kingfishers and otters along the river, take a cold-water dip in the Usk, or unwind in the wood-fired sauna with a refreshing plunge.

In summer, the farm shop is full of organic vegetables from the walled garden and beef from the Longhorn cattle, perfect for an al fresco BBQ in the sheltered courtyard. For yoga groups, the optional hire of the stables provides a serene retreat space.

Just 10 minutes from the market town of Brecon and 30 minutes from the famous book town of Hay-on-Wye, there’s plenty to do close by. For those seeking adventure, it’s the ideal base for hiking, canoeing, and cycling in the stunning National Park. Whether you're seeking an active getaway or a quiet countryside retreat, this unique estate is a place to relax, explore, and recharge.

Accessibility

The Wing is accessed via a flight of steep steps that limits accessibility to disabled people, who cannot manage stairs.

Kitchen

Well equipped spacious kitchen with large table to seat all. Dishwasher, gas/electric range cooker. Microwave, larder fridge, small freezer.

Dining Room

Open plan kitchen/dining room, has seating for all guests around a large table 14 High chairs for babies are available. There is also a sound system.

Sitting Room

There are 3 comfortable sofas and 2 chairs. Ethnic rugs and pictures create a relaxed ambience. There is a TV here.

TV and Music Facilities

TV in sitting room is a Freeview system. there is a DVD player. No SKY. There is a bluetooth speaker in the kitchen.

Heating and Open Fires

Central heating throughout. Heat comes from Biomass boiler, with wood sourced from the Estate. There is a wood burner in the living room. Logs FOC.

Bedrooms

The rooms are a mixed configuration of sleeping units, ideally suited to family groups. Please refer to the detail above for exact bed / room layouts.

Linen

Please bring your own bath towels. All bed linen is provided. Tea towels, bath mats, etc are provided.

Bathrooms

There are 4 bathrooms and WCs in the wing. 2 stand alone showers, 1 shower/ bath. 1 bath only. 3 WC's within the bathrooms, 1 solo WC.

Children's Facilities

High chairs & cot available. Stair gates are fitted throughout. There are a number of games and puzzles and books in the sitting room.

Outdoor

Wonderful grounds including a Maze, wood-fired sauna, swimming and 1 mile of fly fishing on the River Usk. Farm shop.

Swimming Pool

Wild swimming in the River Usk, by the bridge, it's cold, bracing and wonderful. Bring old shoes to wear. Children must be supervised at all times.

Parking

Park in the cobbled yard to rear of main house.

Smoking

No smoking in the house please, but smokers feel free to puff away in the courtyard.

Booking Information

  • Change over day is Monday & Friday. Variations occur over New Year and Christmas. 
  • 3 night minimum on weekends and 4 night midweek.
  • Check-in 5pm / Check-out 10am.
  • Discount for 7 night stays.
  • The rental price includes all heating, electricity, linen, bath mats, hand towels, tea towels but not personal towels.
  • We ask for a deposit of ÂŁ350 to secure the booking. On receipt of your deposit, we will send you confirmation of your booking. We ask for the balance to be paid six weeks prior to arrival.
