Just 5 minutes from the impressive Cheddar Gorge and many other family attractions, Petruth Paddocks is a magical spot for a family glamping holiday. For something a little different, choose from a variety of quirky accommodation ranging from gypsy bowtops to an American school bus. There are plenty of units available, catering for around 38 guests with exclusive use of the whole site available. And there's space for peace and privacy for any members of your group wanting to escape for a while.
The owners, Jules, Sandra, Kelly and Steve want this to be a fun holiday with just the bare minimum of site rules, to give the children a Swallows and Amazons experience with free range camping. If they're really lucky they may bag a tractor and trailer ride with Jules!
The glamping units are beautifully presented, cosy spaces with mattresses and full bedding provided (except for the bell tent where guests are asked to bring their own bedding). There's a kettle inside for the first cuppa of the day but generally the cooking is done outside on barbecues and camp fires. The school bus and the sub do have a kitchen for cooking indoors.
The Food Hub is an on-site facility selling locally sourced food in the mornings and evenings. Every Friday & Saturday evening, throughout the summer, a variety of street food is available - a treat for the whole family after a busy day of fun. There are outside seating areas and plenty of picnic benches for larger groups to gather together for drinks, chat and to toast marshmallows.
Shared facilities are excellent with 28 individual toilet cubicles and 18 showers removing the risk of early morning queues. There are also 10 washing up bays for added convenience.
Iconic Cheddar Gorge is on the doorstep, and Wookey Hole and Longleat Safari Park within easy reach for a great family day out. For keen walkers there are hikes in the Mendip Hills and around Cheddar.
