Catered holiday house in the Nilgiri Hills in India, sleeping 14 with yoga, for nature walks and cultural experiences
Holiday Rental for Groups of Families and Friends. Plenti House, The Nilgiri Hills, South India, sleeps 6 - 14 in 6 bedrooms.
For a few weeks of the year, when the climate is perfect, we are offering stays in our truly unique, architect-designed guest house in the mountains of South India. Made from natural materials, with six very comfortable double/twin bedrooms (an extra bed can be placed in 2 of them), with en-suite bathrooms, it has received accolades from all who have stayed in it. Each room has a balcony, with glorious views across to the Ooty mountains. The living areas are open plan around a central fireplace for occasional cooler evenings in the winter months; dining is around a 14-seater rain tree table. Our cooks serve delicious South Indian vegetarian cuisine with Western breakfasts also on offer.
The House is surrounded by a colourful garden, including a vegetable garden which supplies the ingredients for many of the menus. In the grounds is a yoga/ayurveda pavilion and a yoga teacher leads yoga practice every morning for all who would enjoy it. There are lovely, quite hilly, walks from the House, again with breath-taking views in all directions, and nearby large tea estates where it is possible to go birdwatching. This part of the Western Ghats is rich with hundreds of species of mammals, birds and butterflies; many of them, such as the Lion-tailed Macaque, the Nilgiri Tahr, the Malabar Giant Squirrel and the Nilgiri Langur, are endemic.
Safaris can be made into the Tiger Reserve near the guest house - home to the elephants and their tribal guardians who starred in last year's Oscar-winning short documentary, the Elephant Whisperers. As well as to mountain peaks, waterfalls and caves, trips are also possible to heritage sites in the region, in Mysore to the Maharaja's Palace, in Srirangapatna to Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace and to the Hoysala Dynasty temple at Somnathpur as well as to British Madras Presidency legacy sites and experiences in Ooty, Coonoor and Kotagiri.
Back at base, you will be wonderfully looked after by our fabulous 10 member staff team. All our profits are donated to the community organisations of the ancient, indigenous people.
