The South Downs Bunkhouse is located in the hamlet of Houghton only 250 metres from the South Downs Way in the centre of the South Downs National Park. This is a great base for cycling and walking breaks, offering quality facilities at a reasonable price. School parties also welcome.
Breakfast can be provided for an additional charge.
The Bunkhouse can sleep up to 20 in four rooms but can sleep 23 (with three extra beds in three of the rooms, does make it a tad cosy but regularly done) one room sleeps 8, the others four each. Each bed has a power socket and USB charging port. There is a communal room with tea and coffee making facilities, a microwave, fridge and toaster. In the comunial room there is an electric hob and oven and under counter fridge. The utility room has another electric oven dishwasher, American fridge/freezer, 18kg washing machine, touble dryers. There is a TV/DVD and free WiFi throughout.
The comunial room has a extendable dining table which seats 12/14. We have now converted another room as a functon room which is perfect for larger groups, this has tables and chairs to seat 30+ sofas, arm chair and large bean bag and gives a much larger space to relax and socialise in. This space can be hired at ÂŁ90 per 24 hours.
In the courtyard there are bike washing facilities, secure bike storage, picnic tables and a barbecue.Â
For larger groups or those with some looking for a little more luxury, we can also offer bed and breakfast at the Arun Valley B&B at Houghton Farm. There are 2 rooms in the farmhouse , both rooms are spacious and comfortable, and a choice of breakfasts are served in the large dining room.
Houghton has two good pubs and a very nice new meditarean Boathouse at Houghton Bridge, all within easy walking distance. There is also the Black Horse at Amberley which is an excellent pub situated in the pretty village of Amberley is a mile and a half away with a tea room and village shop.
The historic towns of Petworth (8.5 miles) and Arundel (4 miles) are within easy reach. Arundel can be reached by train, and Amberley railway station is very close by. The south coast is nearby too.
