Eco friendly bunkhouse near Market Drayton sleeping 31 for retreats, educational visits, corporate events and weddings
For educational visits, retreats, youth groups, corporate events and weddings
The Straw Lodge is being offered for educational visits, retreats, youth groups, corporate events and even an exclusive number of weddings. No family breaks.
The Straw Lodge is a unique eco-friendly venue with a difference. A stunning example of traditional craftsmanship and ecological architecture, the building has car tyre foundations, a roundwood frame and walls made from straw bales. Layers of natural clay were plastered onto the straw, pushed into the bales by hand by many valued volunteers, making it one of the largest volunteer-built straw bale buildings in England.
Do not be fooled; despite its traditional construction this stunning building is finished to the highest standards and offers stylish quality modern accommodation, featuring a gorgeous spacious lounge area with log burner and bi-fold doors opening up to stunning views over the fields. This multi-purpose space can be used for events, meetings and workshops as well as just a space to relax or dine. Adjacent is a large kitchen with commercial quality equipment, fully equipped with all crockery, pots, pans and utensils you may need to cook up a feast.
The bedrooms include 2 large dormitories sleeping 10 people in each on adult size bunk beds, with an additional 3 people per dormitory in smaller triple bunks. For group leaders there are 2 further smaller private bedrooms; one with adult size bunk beds and another with a triple sleeper (double bed with single above). The Lodge boasts 2 showers and 4 toilets in a communal area, with a fully accessible bathroom en suite to the double bedroom.
The surrounding landscape offers plenty of inspiration, a place to connect with nature and explore. The Straw Lodge is located on Fordhall Organic Farm, England’s first community-owned farm and one of England’s oldest organic farms. We aim to show that small-scale farming, connected to the local community, offers a viable way of life for generations to come. On site we have Arthur’s Farm Kitchen café, a well-stocked farm shop showcasing the best of Fordhall's own as well as other local produce, and free farm trails to explore taking you to our lovely woodland, ponds and the Tern river.
