The Firs offers comfortable dorm style budget accommodation with leader rooms available. Duke of Edinburgh groups, schools, scouts and university groups will find The Firs a good choice for smaller expeditions or personal development experiences.
The Countryside Study Centre is available for separate hire, complete with a computer suite and interactive whiteboard for field work and educational sessions.

For self catering, the well equipped kitchen is set up for everyone to cook together and there’s a terrace outside with picnic benches as well as the inside dining room. There are 2 twin rooms suitable for group leaders, 1 accessible for anyone less mobile, and the property is single storey. All of the bedrooms have en suite facilities so no queues in the morning.
Pendarren House can offer adventure activities to groups staying at The Firs as long as booked well in advance. Boots and wet weather gear will also be provided in these circumstances by the centre. Qualified instructors, who are also first aiders, lead all activities, which include caving, climbing, canoeing and kayaking.
Beautifully sandwiched between the Black Mountains and Bannau Brycheiniog, Pendarren is well placed to take full advantage of everything the local landscape offers, including wonderful walking and cycling routes, with the option to schedule visits to local historic attractions too.
