The lake shore is easily accessible from Thwaite Cottage or you can wander into Coniston village itself. Here you’ll find a plethora of friendly pubs, local shops and lively cafes. A footpath from outside Thwaite Cottage leads through to woods to the stunning Tarn Hows, a must-visit for many of those holidaying in the Lakes.  There are also plenty of opportunities for wild-swimming including the lake, beautiful mountain tarns and up in nearby Coppermines Valley with its stunning waterfalls and deep, crystal clear pools. For cyclists, there are off-road mountain biking trails including at nearby Grizedale Forest, as well as some stunning road routes through some of the country’s most spectacular scenery. Also in Coniston is The Ruskin Museum, which is home to the famous Bluebird K7 Jet Hydroplane owned by Donald Campbell. A little further along the lake shore sits Brantwood, the Victorian home of John Ruskin. Here visitors can explore the historic house and arts centre, explore the enchanting gardens and enjoy some delicious food at The Terrace cafe with its breath-taking views.
