Wern Manor is an imposing Grade-II* listed manor house dating back to the early 16th century. In the late 1800s it was bought by Richard Greaves, the manager of the LLechwedd Slate Quarry, who employed the architect John Douglas to extend and remodel the house in the 'Jacobethan' Arts & Craft style of the late Victorian era.
The aim was to impress and Wern Manor more than delivers on this front. From the grand entrance porch with mosaic flooring and the rich oak-panelled entrance hall, through into what was once a sumptuous drawing room (now a games and cinema room) and a large sitting room with comfy sofas around the fireplace with glorious mahogany mantle and a 10ft snooker table - the character and quality of the Victorian era still shines through.
Now a holiday house between the Eryri (Snowdonia) mountains and the sea, Wern Manor truly is an ideal space to get together with friends and family of all ages or for that special celebration.
The 5 bedroom suites are located in the old Servants' Wing, also home to a well-equipped kitchen in the former scullery - don't worry: the old cast-iron range is only for show - and an informal dining space in the original kitchen.
The erstwhile Servants Hall is a comfortable additional sitting room and can accommodate 4 extra guests on pull-out beds - ideal for independent younger guests.
The Butler's House sleeps another 4 guests in a double and a twin room. The Bothy (sleeps 5) in a double, twin and single bedroom. Please contact us if you wish to add one or both of the cottage on to your rental
The large grounds are secluded and private and a joy for both two- and four-legged guests. And yet Wern Manor is within easy reach of all major attractions: from the mountains and zip wires for the thrill seekers to its many castles, glorious beaches (Black Rock Sands is only down the road), and Heritage Steam Railway. The delightful model village of Portmeirion, designed by Richard Greaves' nephew Clough Williams-Ellis, is also just a 5 minute drive.
