The Wild Pear Centre is situated in the North Devon seaside village of Combe Martin, the western gateway to Exmoor. Wild Pear beach, our namesake beach, is a favourite for swimming, sunbathing and exploring rock pools. Numerous delightful walks and beaches are nearby - wooded valleys, standing stones, limekilns, silver mines, miners tracks, coves, and a Saxon lane.

Wild Pear offers a relaxed, feeling-at-home ambiance. It’s a good environment for groups to meet and spend time together. It’s an unusual holiday venue for friends or extended families.

Wild Pear has provided a venue for many groups and courses such as yoga, meditation, new age spirituality, movement, dance, singing, photography and art. Close to shops, beach and the coast path, there is little need to use a car after arrival. It is not a luxury country hotel - its luxury is to be found in its difference.

The social hub of the centre is the Hall. Under a mansard roof, with beams said to be fashioned from ships timbers salvaged from Wild Pear beach, there are sofas, easy chairs and a dining table. A big ceiling fan provides atmospheric cooling breezes in the summer, and conserves heat in the winter. There is a piano. Large roof windows bring natural light to the area. There are sea views.

The Wild Pear Group Room has windows along its south side looking out to a wooded slope and nearby hills. This is a versatile space that can be used for group gatherings, or just being. The room is generously equipped with large floor cushions and mats, and can be cleared if required. There is a sprung oak dance floor throughout the Hall and Group room.

Whilst being so close to the beckoning great outdoors, Wild Pear is also spacious and welcoming for those days you may want to relax indoors on holiday. For those wishing to venture further afield than what’s possible on foot, we are within easy driving distance of Lynton and Lynmouth, Hunter’s Inn and the popular surfing beach at Woolacombe Sands.

Large open plan hall includes dining table seating 16 which can be adapted for 20. Also coffee table and easy chairs for snack meals and drinks.

Sitting Room

Spacious social hub of the centre. Sofas, easy chairs, low table, piano. Large roof windows. Separate group room equipped with floor cushions and mats

TV and Music Facilities

No television or DVD player. Music system in group room for CD, tapes or iPod plug-in.

Games Room

No dedicated games room, although we do have an array of games including table football, Jenga, Twister and Scrabble, and a huge pile of big cushions.

Heating and Open Fires

Full gas central heating.

Bedrooms

4 bedrooms (double or twin), 2 dormitory areas of 4 beds each, 1 bunk area with 4 bunk spaces.

Linen

We supply bottom sheet, pillow and pillowcase only. You need to bring sleeping bag or duvet, and towels.

Bathrooms

There are 3 bathrooms comprising 3 toilets, 3 showers and 1 bath. There are basins in each of the 4 bedrooms.

Outdoor

We have no grounds; however, we are 5 mins walk from the nearest beach, and 10 mins walk to the Coast Path & Exmoor National Park.

Swimming Pool

No pool. You can swim in the sea at Combe Martin bay (5 mins away) or for more adventurous swimmer, Wild Pear beach (20 mins walk).

Parking

Limited parking in the village. You are advised to use the metered public car parks. We send out further info on request.

Smoking

No smoking. Or vaping.

£24 to £32 per person per night (children charged at half adult price), depending size of group. Larger groups work out cheaper pppn. Minimum group size: 10. Maximum: 20. Same price all year.

Location

Wild Pear Centre is in the seaside village of Combe Martin on the edge of Exmoor National Park. It’s 10 mins walk to the coast path from our front door, 5 mins to nearest beaches.

We are in Combe Martin. Next nearest larger town is Ilfracombe (10 mins drive) or the county town, Barnstaple (20 mins drive).
Village shop 2 mins walk.
Two pubs at seafront 5 mins walk, another large pub with garden and occasional live music, 10 mins walk.
Bristol, or Exeter.
Barnstaple
2 min walk to Hail & Ride bus stop for Ilfracombe and Barnstaple, or going deeper into Exmoor.
