Wollaston Lodge occupies a rural position in Shropshire, close to Shrewsbury and the Welsh border. An important house dating from 1840, the Lodge is now a home from home, elegant but relaxed, with every comfort required to make your stay a pleasure.

The accommodation is spacious, beautifully furnished and comfortable. Each of the 5 bedrooms in the main house is in a different style: French, traditional British and contemporary. All have an en suite or private bathroom. Two further bedrooms, ideal for a family, are found in the Coach House, adjacent but entirely separate - a great choice for families holidaying together or multi-generational family groups. The Coach house benefits from two single beds on the ground floor, ideal for the elderly or infirmed.

A large lounge, with sofas and a TV, provides a comfortable space for relaxing. The Orangery, with a dining table for up to 20, is a bright space, with doors opening onto the gardens beyond.

The house looks out onto the Italianate gardens and terraces, filled with mature plants and offering many quiet and secluded places for peace and contemplation, summerhouse, benches and a hammock. For those seeking a little more action, there is a tennis court and racquets to borrow. The tennis court also has football nets and netball posts, all balls provided. There is a table tennis table in the open garage and now a stylish new Yoga studio.

The historic and unspoilt market town of Shrewsbury is close by, with a wealth of interesting shops and restaurants. Country walks are just outside the door, and canoeing and other activities can be arranged for you locally. The hills around Church Stretton are a great spot for wonderful walking as well as Snowdonia, and Ludlow, a little further south, is a gastronomic paradise.

Wollaston Lodge is a great base for wedding parties with a reception at Rowton Castle, a beautiful venue only 3 miles away, or for some of your wedding guests. Special occasions, celebrations, girls weekends away together, family gatherings and corporate groups are all welcome.

Disabled Facilities

No disabled facilities but the Coach House bedrooms and bathroom are on the ground floor.

Dog Friendly

A couple of well behaved dogs is permissible but we ask that they do not go upstairs in the main house out of respect for future guests.

Kitchen

Fully equipped kitchen: professional SMEG double oven with 6 gas hobs, microwave, 2 large toasters, 2 dishwashers and a freezer.

Dining Room

The Orangery is a bright room with a table seating 10 which can be extended to seat 20. Opens onto the gardens with fabulous views across the valley.

Sitting Room

Comfortable sofas sitting 14 with a 48" TV. WiFi enables access to Netflix and Amazon Prime. Large feature gas fire, games. 2nd sitting room close by.

TV and Music Facilities

Flat screen TV and iPod dock in each bedroom. 48" TV in one lounge, 36" in other. Wireless BOSE speaker in kitchen plus docking station. 10 TVs.

Games Room

Table tennis table in the Yoga Strudio to the front of Wollaston leading out onto the gravel drive.

Heating and Open Fires

Central heating throughout. Feature gas fire in the lounge.

Bedrooms

Individually styled, excellent mattresses, en suite or private bathroom. 2 rooms sleep 4 (king/twin), 2 kings, 2 doubles, 1 twin. Single on landing.

Linen

Good quality linen throughout, professionally laundered. Towels included for all guests, bath mats and flannels.

Bathrooms

En suite or private, all recently refurbished with good quality tiles and bathroom fittings. Water on a pressurised system, good shower strength.

Children's Facilities

Nothing specific but the house is quite children friendly, it is possible to close the garden doors for safety.

Outdoor

Beautiful Italianate gardens. Dining furniture on the two terraces. One terrace adjacent to the 6 man hot tub has fabulous views across the valley.

Swimming Pool

There is no swimming pool but a 6 man hot tub heated to 39 degrees.

Parking

Ample space for 10 cars but we have had as many as 16 cars.

Smoking

No smoking please in the property please. We leave ashtrays for smoking outdoors.

Booking Information

Weekend bookings are generally from 3pm on the Friday through to 11am on the Sunday or 11am on the Monday for a 3 day weekend. £500 deposit to secure booking, balance 90 days prior to arrival. Damage deposit £750 per stay.

Location

Wollaston is situated 400 metres from the A458 at Halfway House. This is 8 miles from the A5 Shrewsbury Ring Road. We are 80 mins from Liverpool Airport. 20 minutes drive to Powis Castle.

There is a bus that comes direct from London Golders Green and stops at the bottom of our road 400 yards away. Our nearest station is Shrewsbury 10 miles away. The taxi is £15 from there.
Welshpool has a private airfield 10 miles away.
Shrewsbury is a 15 minute drive from Wollaston and has over 70 restaurants and bars for a great evening out as well as a couple of great nightclubs. Well policed and very safe.
We have a village shop a mile away for essentials. There is a substantial petrol station shop 6 miles away. Shrewsbury has all the major supermarkets many of which deliver.
Good food within a couple of miles at The Windmill or The Olde Hand & Diamond. We also recommend The Royal Hill.
Birmingham or Liverpool. Birmingham is the easiest with a good train into Shrewsbury Station. Liverpool 80 mins by car, Birmingham 70 mins.
