What date is Easter 2025?

In 2025, Easter Sunday falls on April 20th.

Easter Bank Holidays

In England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland both Friday the 18th and Monday the 21st of April are public holidays surrounding the Easter weekend. In Scotland there is a bank holiday on Friday the 18th of April, but not on Monday the 21st of April (sorry Scotland!).

You can see a full list of the bank holidays for 2025 in our guide here.

How is Easter Determined?

Unlike fixed holidays such as Christmas, Easter’s date changes each year. It’s celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox (March 21). This means Easter can be as early as March 22 or as late as April 25.

This calculation is rooted in a blend of astronomy and tradition. The vernal equinox marks the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere, symbolising rebirth and renewal—themes central to Easter. The full moon adds a layer of significance, as it was tied to the Jewish calendar. Passover, a key event in the Easter story, is based on the lunar calendar, and early Christians sought to preserve this connection when determining the date of Easter.

To summarise:

  • Find the vernal equinox (fixed as March 21 for the Church’s calculation).
  • Identify the next full moon after this date.
  • Easter Sunday is the following Sunday.

Why is Easter Important for Group Holidays?

Easter is a prime opportunity for group holidays, offering a long weekend (in most countries) and, for many, school holidays. With a mix of cultural, religious, and leisure traditions, it’s a time when families and friends come together. The spring weather often makes it ideal for outdoor activities, whether you’re exploring the countryside, enjoying a coastal retreat, or staying in a spacious holiday home.

Planning Your Easter 2025 Holiday

If you’re considering a group getaway, here are some tips to make the most of Easter 2025:

1. Book Early

Easter is a popular time for travel, so securing your accommodation early is essential. Group holiday homes often fill up months in advance, particularly in sought-after destinations. Whether you’re looking for a rural retreat or a seaside escape, starting your search now will give you the best selection. Check out our range of group stays with Easter availability here.

2. Choose the Right Destination

Easter’s springtime setting is perfect for exploring the great outdoors. Consider destinations that offer a mix of activities:

  • Countryside escapes: Enjoy long walks, Easter egg hunts, and peaceful surroundings.
  • Coastal breaks: Spring breezes and ocean views create a refreshing holiday vibe.
  • City getaways: Immerse yourself in cultural events, Easter markets, and historical sites.

3. Plan Festive Activities

Incorporating Easter traditions can make your holiday extra special. Ideas include:

  • Hosting an Easter egg hunt in the garden or nearby park.
  • Preparing a meal with locally sourced ingredients.
  • Attending local Easter events or services.

4. Consider Travel Logistics

Ensure you account for traffic or transport demand during the Easter period. If your group includes children, factor in activities to keep them entertained during the journey.
